Opportunity to play this course on a 'reciprocal' and so pleased we did. We were greeted by an attractive walled entrance; friendly lady members in the car cark and a warm, smiley welcome from the assistant pro.
Letchworth have a tee system where 1/2 balls go off the first while 3/4 balls go off the 10th and alternate every two hours which worked well in our favour as we completed our round in about 3 1/4 hours.
A gently undulating parkland course with tree lined fairways which make the drives look quite tight but generally open up in the landing areas. The greens are large and were in superb condition - fast and smooth - and if you kept your line would result in seeing the ball satisfyingly dropping into the hole. The fairways were a little thin but did not detract from our round where we both came in under handicap!
There were some interesting and varying par 3s; and differing lengths of pars 4 and 5.
We also observed some interesting earth mounds apparantly a 'folly' of a club secretary in the 1900s.
The course will look even better in the fullness of summer with the trees in leaf and I can imagine some tricky rough in places but if you get amongst the trees, there was always a possibility of progressing forwards.
We completed our visit with a cup of tea and lovely heated scones in the club house where we were also made to feel welcome.
Well worth a visit!!

must play there this year, we have a club match against them so might get in on that ;)

A friend is a member, only downer is the joining fee/membership cost otherwise I would be all over it like a rash!

Glad you had a great day

Am due to play there in a few weeks (first time for many years), pleasant track as I remember it and our pro said the greens and surrounds were as good as anywhere he had played of late.

what course do you play at Robin if this is one of your reciprocals?

Welwyn Garden is my home course and we have arrangements with Mid & East Herts, Brickendon, Brookmans Park, Old Fold Manor, Verulem, Harpenden, Bedford County amongst others. I am lucky to play Seniors matches so other local venues also on the itinery. Brookman's Park and Hadley Wood for example are splendid as is Brockett Hall. Also get to play Dunstable Downs and Knebworth.
Lucky me!

Ah OK, I know that neck of the woods well, I played most of my golf when younger in Herts and Middlesex. Some nice courses on that list for sure! If you play seniors matches at Brocket I dare say you may come across my father if you're really unlucky :p
