Let battle commence! PGA V R&A and USGA

Might be an argument for banning it on the actual tour though.... and let us amateurs decide to do whatever we prefer.

This is exactly what they don't want. Although we effectively play a different game to the Pros it should still be to the same Rules.
Do Football rules change from Utd vs City to 2 pub teams playing on a Sunday? The Rules are the same regardless of the level at which the game is played.
Golf should be too.

I don't agree, it wouldn't be a disaster if the PGA bring a reasonable argument to the table and the R&A listen accordingly. They are still free to make a decision and it could quite fairly go either way.

I don't think anchoring is a bad thing, I've never played golf with someone who uses one and thought "I don't want to play golf with you".

Whilst I respect your opinion and position on this I feel you are wrong on each of your three points.

It would be a disaster if the USGA and R & A back down. It would be a case of a very small tail wagging a massive dog. The PGA tour, and in particular those members of it who can't use a standard putter, is not what golf is all about. It's about the millions of us throughout the world who play and sustain the sport, in accordance with the rules and in the spirit of the game.
I'm pretty sure that countless thousands could put forward a reasonable argument as to why there is no harm in a smart phone being used as a DMD (not to get into that one again here though). The rule makers however say no and we all comply.

Let the PGA break away and do their own thing if they want, it affects my game and enjoyment not one bit.

I feel anchoring is a bad thing - it's not a golf shot, neither is a croquet style shot and neither is using your putter like a pool cue and we allow neither of those.

Your final point regarding banning it on the tour but allowing amateurs to do what they want - I'm not even going to bother with that

Different rules in pro NFL to NCAA football. Baseball, boxing etc. many sports have different rules from Am to Pro.

The Americans seem to make up their own sports that only they can play.
This enables the events to be called World Series.

Perhaps Scotland should follow their example and call the Shinty final the World Series.

Call their bluff and they would soon find the rest of the golfing world will manage quite well, if not better, without them.

Boxing American? In fact in baseball they aren't dominant either as Cuba and Japan are world class!

Totally disagree and I'll even go as far as telling you that a certain Tiger Woods brought golf to where it is today.

Just look what the good ol USA have done to boxing.
Just how many 'world' champions are there now.

It is all about dollars to them, keep them out of decision making for world golf at all costs.
The golf world championship was a worthwhile event until the top Americans decided to boycott it.
I still think the World Championship should be considered a major, but money got in the way

So, since I can't compete with Usain Bolt over 100m would be ok for me to be fired out of a cannon?

It's ok though because Bolt could get fired out of a cannon too if he fancied it.

It's not proper running but at least it would allow me to compete.

They could let PGA members vote on the matter, but such a vote would likely support the ban. Or they could form a new sport and call it American Golf, Golf League or whatever.
