According to Twitter the PGA Tour have voted to accept the anchoring ban as laid down by the R&A and the USGA from 2016.

Anchoring is to be banned from 2016

A good result in my view.

Dont really think they were every going to do much else at the end of the day, a bit of posturing to appease a few members but ultimately i didnt think they were every going to do anything else.

Glad they have agreed with the ban! Caps off to the few anchoring players who have accepted it and started using a regular putter!

They also want the ban to only come in for Amateurs in 2024..........

Not sure about that - the ban's not due for more than 2 years, surely that's enough time to make the switch..?

Bit like the wedge delay for amateur too then.......

Yeah I guess so - do either really need to go on for so long?

Would be interesting to establish how many non-conforming wedges are out there at the moment....

I use a long putter without anchoring, suppose some pros will do the same.

Sam Torrance does too. Well, so he's stated.

The ban is likely to affect quite a few on Seniors/Champions Tour though! And more so than those on PGA Tour who have been brought up on them. The likes of Keegan Bradley should be able to learn 'proper' putting, while the likes of Scott and Els - and the Senior/Champions Tour will have to find alternatives that work having already been through that process!

I think the reason they will do it for amature so far ahead in the future is because it would force people to buy a new putter in the next 2 years. Giving them 10 years is overly reasonable for even the tightest or lowest budget golfer to save up and buy a new flat iron.

Or borrow a junior hacksaw...

Thought we were a game of one set of rules.

But any amateur who is using a belly putter doubtless has an entire garage full of other putters that they have tried and failed with...
