Had a long standing lesson booked and paid for in the diary for tonight. It appears that I was collapsing the legs on the way through and the guy is trying to get me to hit much more underneath myself with the weight feeling as if its on the inside of my left foot at impact and then turn the hips away. I tended to have a foot slide (a la Greg Norman) which he wants eradicated and more of a turn back sold bast at impact and then turn through.

I had been hitting okay but it shows that there is often something still to improve. Off to work on it tomorrow but when its worked there is such a solid base at impact that distance comes automatically instead of having to feel the need to drive legs, hips arms etc in an exagerated manner towards the target.

I'm sure there'll be those saying "too much" "too technical" etc but it was use it or lose it and given it wasn't cheap and it is moving towards something resembling a more orthodox swing (it shoud eventually stop that standing up action I have) it has to be money well spent. Given that I can work on it in the evenings off grass at the practice ground means I should get positive feedback from the good and bad shots.

Homer, ever hear the expression "You can't teach an old dog new tricks!" ;) :p

I don't think you've the time to implement one change after another, have you? It takes 10,000 practice balls to implement any change fully, that's a lot of range time! :(

.."turn back sold bast"....what's that? :D

Good luck anyway!

Good stuff.

My hips have been my achillies heel past few seasons.

Slide through the ball instead of rotating, had a lesson before xmas and have been working on it since.

Seeing the benefits of it now.

Best bit of advice i got was.... feel as if your left bum cheek(hip) has and elasticated cord attached to it to a wall.and this will obviously tense up (stretch)on back swing due to hip turn. First move on down swing is to feel the cord pulling your cheek back to the wall with the tension releasing.

So this has stopped my slide, and its stting me up for a powerful position at impact

You get what i mean?? lol
Just some things are easier for other people to understand :P

Should read turn back on solid base. You're probably right but as I said it was use it or lose it and there was an obvious flaw of sliding the hips through impact creeping in so it made sense to at least find a cause and get an idea of the fix.

Glad to see your back playing and practicing and getting lessons again you certainly have your mojo back.Im really looking forward to seeing you play at Ascot im expecting great things and a textbook swing.

The way I see it, Homer has an inherent fault in his swing, the swing itself. If he stopped swinging the problem would go away.

Seriously, I don’t give two figs what and pro says, you just need to clear you left side. At impact your body is roughly square to the ball and target line. You need to start your downswing by clearing your left hip out the way.

I know this is extreme but look at Villegas before he strikes the ball.

Been back to the range tonight and I have to say that it is settling in rather well. I can really feel the difference now when I slide the hips and not turn and hit against a solid base. Still not got it off the tee yet but off to Ascot Thursday (rather an important game for a Fulham fan tomorrow) to try it off grass before playing as many holes as I can squeeze in on Friday and really see what happens.

a la Greg Norman....if only. Another chronicle in the life of Homer. :D

He was the only golfer I could think of with a pronounced right foot slide. Not saying it was right for me. In fact its the biggest thing my teaching pro wants to get rid off
i have this problem too homer, had a lesson on fri along similar lines, but ive got to think of keeping the weight on the inside of right foot on backswing, then turn through. i really struggle with the turn aspect(always have), one day though!

So as a follow up....

How was Pyrford Homer????
;) ;) ;)

In places very good. Started with a bidie and was level after 3. Fell away on the back and managed to lose 3 balls in the last 4 holes. Didn't like it but I think it was because the front 9 was soooo slow and my concentration was shot. That and I swung it like a loon
