Had a spare morningand early afternoon today so a round was in order. As I'm paying for my golf at the mo I thought I would be financially prudent and play my old club (£12) rather than the one I want to join(£23).

Well that's not going to happen again. Walked up to the first tee and there were two oldies teeing off. No problem I thought, they'll let me through on the 2nd. After taking 5 shots to get out of range the joke was wearing a bit thin!
Anyway I finally got going and drove down the middle(ish). But when I got to the fairway I was appalled by the state of them - if you can call them fairways! THe grass was almost first-cut length, there were dandelion weeds all over the place and it just looked rubbish.
Got to the 2nd and the oldies had gone about 75 yards - no hint of a call-through - and waited again. 2nd fairway worse than the 1st and it didn't get much better. By the 4th I was really getting fed up. AS I walked to the 5th I passed the 2 oldies coming the other way. "You're welcome to join us but we can't go any faster because of the group in front" was the statement. I muttered that I had to go and did just that - walked straight off, clubs and trolley in car and motored 5 miles down the road to the other course, paid my £23 and went on. Lovely course neat grass, few weeds, good greens and people who let you through! And I was level par for 8 holes! Soon buggered it up though to finish +10 but there you go.

I'm never going back to my old place again. They only had 2 greenkeepers and they were both sat on their backsides. The state of the place has left a bad feeling.
So from now on I'll be paying the money and going somewhere better - until I can persuade HID to let me join!!

You really do get what you pay for.

Never a good feeling when you go back somewhere you enjoyed and it has goen downhill. I remember taking HID to a pub I use to go to not long after we started going out. It use to be a great place with decent music, good beers etc. Got there and it was rough - dog rough.

I've been back to a few old clubs and some are better than I remember them and others haven't really moved on. I guess like you say put it down to a £12 lesson learnt
