Les Miserables the movie

am i on the right forum!!!!!!! i always thought men who liked musicals were strange and admitting to crying over a fictitious loud of twaddle well i just cant believe it,i had to stop sewing the sequins on my best friends(justin )new top to have my say.
Ooo, Ooo sequins, what colour? Sequins are fabulous!

Is this film another of those 'Emperor's new clothes' films. If everyone and the critics says it great then it must be great and I must say it's great - and if I didn't enjoy it then that's my fault for not getting it?

I ask as I mean to go and see Les Mis - however me and Mrs watched The Best Exotic Marigiold Hotel last night. Out of 10 I'll maybe give it 5 - and that's for India - most certainly not the plot, acting or comedy value (they scoree <5). Laughing out loud?? (as many cinema goers seem to have been doing), you got to be joking. Only point when we both emmitted a mild chortle of reciognition was when some bloke's wife told him 'When I want your opinion, I give it to you'. A great feel good movie - eh?? Well it didn't make me cry; I wasn't scared witless, and I didn't come away thinking deep thoughts - I suppose it must be something - but I wasn't glowing all over smiling inane grins at my wife.

I say 'Emperor's new clothes' to it. Pah! Sorry. Me and Mrs looked across at each other at the end as if to say 'was that it?'.

So of Les Mis??

If you don't bawl like a baby at the end of Toy Story 3
Then you have no heart
Sniff :)

I braved it out for the sake of my grandson ;)...

Yet to see Les Mis... Saw much of the dailies and a preview reel or two but not the finished article...

With much of it shot green screen I like to see what it looks like with all the missing bits filled in...

Herself went last week and thought it really good... But she loves the stage version whereas I don't...

They are doing a limited re-release of Chinatown... Now there's a proper film... Looking forward to getting to see it again... Seen it many times on DVD but its just not the same...

I saw this tonight, competely underwhelmed, apart from the very beginnning and the scenes around the revolution, I though it was very poor, in fact I almost walked out.

I cry at most times but I barely moistened my eyes.

How does it compare to the live musical ?

The film is in my opinion only a poor comparison to the musical, too overblown with some very average signing, had I not seen the show 4 times my opinion would no doubt be less critical, the leading players all did not have big enough voices to sell the songs which should be epic, the only decent signing was from the wee girly playing Cosette and a great cameo from the master who is Colm Wilkinson playing the bishop (he was the original stage Jean Val Jean)

Worth watching if you havn't seen the show but for me I didnt come out feeling drained as one does after thev live show.

I did very much enjoy this movie, the story is one I've seen in musicals etc when I was younger and adored it.

Russell Crowe wasn't great at singing and Sacha Baron Cohen was a let down as the Master of the House but Jackman and Hathaway were brilliant.
