Went into a Pal of mine who works in Nevada Bobs last night for a peek at the new Ping S55's..... Stiff KBS Tour shaft..
Initially just to have an eyeball but he said have a few hits with it.....
He set up the Machine for me and i began hitting a few balls with a 6 iron....

Iv no idea how accurate these things are but i was amazed at the amount of information it gave me.....I was swinging a 6 iron at 93 mph.... I think my ball speed was 121mph with a slight draw....I was carrying the ball 175yards with a total distance of i think 182 yards.....

My spin was in around 2200-2500rpm.... I spent a few minutes just fiddling about with it and just for the craic i picked up a Ping G25 6 iron.... Regular shaft......
Spin went up to 7500 rpm.... Distance dropped by nearly 25 yards and it just looked like it was going straight up in the air and falling out of the sky.......

I havent a clue as i said how accurate these things are but id say for someone with a decent swing thats pretty repeatable a custom fit for shafts at least would be a no brainer...
Interesting stuff though....

Not a patch on a Rocketbladez though Kid..........

Surely 175 with a 6i is not unusual,

Murg... I heard those things are supposed to be scary long......

Ah nothing mental Murph... I was more interested in the spin that a different shaft and head made rather than the distance..... Im more of a sitting on the fence type of guy when it comes to those things in shops...... To be honest i wouldnt really know how accurate they were......
I couldnt believe the jump in spin though.....

kid..... as I read this thread I was expecting another" I'm tempted by......." thread then I noticed something.

when did you get to 9.3, looks like it's been a good year old chap

Naa...... Im not giving in to shineys anymore Pal..... :whoo:
Reached 9.3 as of last weekend.... I had 38 points in a stableford.... I think it was the last qualifying round of the season before the winter comps kick in so it was nice to reach single figures for the end of the season..... It gave me a huge boost as i wasnt expecting to reach it until at least the ed of next season so expectations were blown clean out of the water.....

More work to go this year though... I aint stopping at that..... I want to Play Jimmy Bruen next season for my club so i need to get a more repeatable stable swing for the future... Something that i can trust a bit more.... My last 8 rounds have bee a bit odd.... I wasnt thinking about mechanics in the rounds i shot good scores in but im not really sure im doing what my Pro wanted me doing.... It'll be interesting going back to see him i 3 weeks time for this years course....

2200-2500 sounds low with a 6-iron (I wouldn't know that for a fact but it sounds low because 2000rpm with a driver sounds pretty familiar)

No clue myself James... As i said..... I was just fiddling about... More nosey than anything else to see what all the numbers were doing..... Im a bit pessimistic with these things at the best of times..... Indoors, flat lie perfect conditions and nothing to hit into only a screen.....
I must try it with my driver and see what it throws up....

decent rule of thumb for the tour players is 1000x the iron number so approx 6000 for a 6 iron, think mine were slightly below that when fitted

I'm no expert but that does sound a really low spinrate for a 6 iron, did it give you a lauch angle or height of the ball at the top of the flight?

2500 rpm is much too low for a 6 iron. 93 mph is the 6 iron speed of a Luke Donald or similar. Sounds to me like you are not really flighting the ball properly.

Iv no idea Pal.... Like I said I was just in there messing about.... I'm not even sure the machine was even set up for the club I had in my hand....

Anyway... Its all over my head so to speak.... I'm keeping what I have cos they ain't broke....

I'd love to have a go on a launch monitor, not an easy thing to come by though.

some AG's attached to a range have trackman bays you pay for, not cheap I think but usefull now and again. Personally I would never use one where you cant see the actual flight of the ball. I did once (by accident) and its just not golf hitting into a bedsheet:rolleyes:

If the spin rate was correct at 2000rpm or so then it sounds as though the ball flight will be too low unless you have an excessively high launch angle. At 2000rpm the ball will just drop and you will lose distance. Increasing the spin to around the 4000rpm mark should give you a higher flight with more carry and more control over the ball when it lands. Maybe going for a slightly softer shaft than the one you tried. Rule of thumb is to go for the softest shaft that you can control.
