Laser or GPS?

I’ve never understood why people use lasers. Ok, it gives you the distance to the flag but, unless you can slam dunk the ball straight into the hole, what real use is that information? I use gps and that means I know the distance to the back of the green which I find is a more accurate reference for my perceived distance with each club (how many come up short?). I also know the distance to carry hazards and what shot to hit to leave a good distance in. Lasers are very one dimensional imo

Most of the time when I'm hitting an iron into the green it's going to stop within 6 feet of where it pitched, and this time of year it's like throwing darts. Laser to the flag is the distance I need. Distance to back of the green is pretty useless if the green is 40 yards long and the pin is at the front.

If I come up short it's typically because I've mis-hit it, not mis-judged the distance I need to hit it.

That's why I get the back yardage, so I can mishit it next to the pin. 😁

Most of my shots have a significant dispersion and the back to middle of the green is usually a better target for me than the pin, If the greens are not very large GPS is fine for me, maybe 50-100 yds laser would help .

undo it before you play, the case has a little clip to keep it closed when your in round

or its magnetic and just stick it to the buggy (if in a buggy)
I don't use a buggy and if I didn't keep it in something it would get muddy whatever it is in I have to open and I cannot envisage anything that is faster than my watch.

Yeah but what happens when you flush it and it goes over the back? I can't think of anything more annoying on the golf course than putting a lovely swing on it and watching it sail over the back.

I've done it once. Went down to a 9 iron. Hit it beautifully and it flew the green off the bank into a bush

I was fuming

What I hate about some players using lasers is simply their game is not good enough to know the distance that accurately and for some it is a crutch - comes out on every single shot including tees on par 3s which they have played 100s of times, walk up to the tee measure then go back to the bag for a club and then walk about to the tee. We have one guy who we all swear is going to use a laser on the green one day, I have seen him laser from just 20 yards away from the flag.
Usually it only takes one to “zap it” and share the distance.

I use a shotscope gps and due to problems with the face being used in the rain, I ended getting a laser as well (Shotscope have since improved use in the rain). Mostly use the gps and occasional use of the laser when it’s not fully clear where the pin is. However, they’re always wrong - well that’s my excuse:)

This is what I've started doing on par 3s

I always get to the tee first , I like a power walk

I go zap the flag then turn round and say

" X distance to the flag"

Then everyone's aware

Used the new shotscope for the first time today, found it fairly easy to navigate after watching a couple of tutorials on youtube. Not sure how much I'll use all the features but will probably dabble with the stats etc.

Why wouldn’t they 🤷‍♂️
It comes back to confidence. If I measure the distance I'm sure I've got it right. I've seen other people come up with all kinds of other numbers. Especially a few years ago, only the good lasers had pin identification. I've known people to laser just about everything BUT the pin. How many times even with a laser that several of us have a couple of different distances, while standing in the same spot. A couple of yards doesn't make much difference....but I'd rather put my golf in MY hands.

My experience of lasers is they are either right or very wrong. A reading from the tee it should be obvious which it is.
