Hi all I'm off to Las Vegas in Sept to get married, obviously i wanna get some golf in as a free man before i take the plunge ;).Has anyone ever played any golf in Vegas?at the moment it is a toss up between Desert Pines Golf club and Angel Park Golf club which has 2 courses to choose from.Just wondering if anyone has played either of these courses and which is the best bet for my handicap(24).Thanks.

I have not played either of the courses you mention, only played Arroyo at Red Canyon and Aliante in the Vegas area.

If the courses you mention are typical US desert courses, you will have a good selection of tees to use. Be guided by the starter (if there is one) and enjoy.

They both look like typical US style desert courses which is why i'm a bit worried incase i slice the ball into the desert lol. What do you mean by starter?someone on the 1st tee?thanks

Played the mountain course on angel park (I think it was called mountain). Highly recommended. Got a decent club house and pro shop, buggies compulsory, half way house that sells hot dogs, burgers, beer etc. Also the hire clubs are titleist. Most importantly its a decent course. Think we payed $30 each way for a taxi from the strip. Hope this helps.

Went to Vegas a few years back for a mates wedding and we played Wolf Creek. Its about an hrs drive (I think in Mesquite?)but worth it!! really stunning course with great facilities and service. You are of course surrounded by desert but it really is quite a course and they encourage varying h'caps to use well laid out tees accordingly,we are both early teen hcaps & found it challenging but heaps of fun off the back tees...google it and have a look...good luck and don't forget your sunscreen!

Starter = someone who works for the club and makes sure the right people are on the 1st/10th tee at the right time.

Do not worry about slicing the ball into the desert, there will be plenty of balls out there :) Local unofficial rules say that you should not retrieve your ball but just drop another on the fairway near the point your ball entered the desert - some people add a penalty shot some do not!! The reason for this is that there are snakes/gila monsters/scorpions/cacti etc in the desert and the clubs do not want you to get injured.

I have been playing golf a couple of times a year in the Phoenix area for the last 10 or so years and have yet to see a snake out there and I do always retrieve/play balls that have gone into the desert.

Golf very close to Vegas is not great. If you are a high roller, Wolf Creek is meant to be something else, but for everyone else, Paiute and Primm Valley are good bets. Both are out of town s a rental car is needed. Lake Las Vegas also has a couple of courses, which are nice enough.

Avoid Royal Links, which is a stupid and overpriced course that purports to have 18 holes based on Open Championship holes.

Thanks for the info, i did look at the mountain course as it is supposedly the better course, but could not find any tee times for the day i wanted to play, although the Palm course had tee times available. There should be 4 of us playing so $60 split between 4 of us is peanuts really.

Also looked as this course as it looks amazing and has 2 other courses to offer but i think it might be a bit to far away. All of the courses look amazing around Las Vegas!i want to play them all!!lol

Oops. That should have been Shadow Creek, not Wolf Creek.

I also got married in Vegas in Sept 09 but didnt play golf out there.

But I did have a lesson at the Callaway Center (with a chap called Eric) which is about a mile from the strip. It cost me $75 for a 1hr video lesson and without doubt was the best lesson that I've had to date.

Enjoy it fella. ;)
