Wanting to take my 6 year old out over the Easter break. Going to go to a nearby par 3 course.

Been on the range a few times and he can make contact with the ball off the tee but just wondered if it was worth me playing alongside him or just walking round with him while he plays his shots round the course?

Cheers.

...and when I did same with my lad I occasionally messed up so he could feel he was just like me - but other times I’d try hard with a chip or a long putt as seeing me getting it right really thrilled him and he’d celebrate with me.

Play alongside. That is the best things about playing golf with your kids.

As above. Mix up how you play. My lad loves it when I hit one close. But also finds it hilarious when I hit one over the green or miss a putt. (not always on purpose)

Don't count the scores.
Don't get technical.
Don't worry about how long it takes.
Let him hit whichever club he wants.
Let him tee it up in everywhere.

Remember you aren't there to play golf. But spend time with your boy and make sure he wants to go back again.

Milkshakes and a burger after.

Just make it fun. I've seen so many golf dads (mostly the ones that are in full golf attire with a full bag of clubs) at the par 3 pitch and putt we go to getting stressed, shouting at their kids and kids crying, you have to wonder what they think they are achieving. It won't make the kids want to go back.
