Wednesday is our Men's roll up day competition which starts at 11 am.

My regular 4 ball however start at 10 ish as our one player is a stay at home dad, so need to get away to pick up kids from school. However today we were a 3 ball.

No problems in early start as most folks get going by 10.30 these days.

So tee off and spy 4 Ladies on first green.......

Wait for 5 minutes for them to putt out on 2nd for us to play into green , Par 5.

Wait 3 minutes on tee to par 3 ,190 yard 3rd, stiff one to 6 foot, James off 1 handicap, centre of green and Doug on the fringe.

Last lady has gone 20 yards up fairway as we putt out.

Must let us through now? yeah right.

James then shouts ' " Excuse me. It's Wednesday men's comp day ( possible not the best opening gambit)

Reply from up the fairway " You're too early you're not supposed to start till 11"

I reply with " However, it would be common decency to let us through'

" No " was the reply and they carried on

Well eventually they let us through after the 6th.

When they came in , ahead of us as only played 13 they told the Pro we'd told them to leave the course, Sheeesh !!!!

Await to see the outcome of this.........

PS Shot 76 and had 2 Two's :D

A law on-to themselves.

A guy asked one of our lady golfers once "Have u no house work u could be doing?" bloody bad chat up line that....It will be ur word against theirs. Good luck
Good score and nice having two 2's

So... the gents at your course would never dream of going out 1 hour before the Ladies are due to start a competition ?

and .... the if they did, how would they cope with a ladies group who started half an hour early ?

:D :D

I have one observation - does this weekly roll-up constitute a recognised club competition, or is it just a regular informal gathering? If it's a recognised competition then you have an entirely valid point, but if it's an informal get together where you all throw a few quid in then it gives you no rights over anyone else on the course.

At my old club the seniors had a weekly roll-up every Thursday morning, and I recall my brother and I once being told on the 2nd tee "It's going to be slow - we're playing a competition" by a particularly grizzled member of the 4-ball in front.

My bro, as calm as you like, just asked if it was a club competition. When he was told it wasn't (we already knew the answer anyway) he said "Well in that case would you mind letting us through? You've already lost over a hole on the group in front and you've only played one yourselves."

The fella's face was a picture as we played through, but it highlighted a real problem at the club - this particular group used their "competition" as an excuse for slow play and poor etiquette, and were allowed to get away with it because very few challenged them.

You wear a watch on the course?

:D

You asked for the delay in being let through. If someone shouts at me to be let through I'll simply make them wait longer. I will always let a quicker group through but if your ignorant enough to shout at me and demand to play through, sod you and your horse you rode in on. Your gonna wait.

The ladies have a right to be there why be so obxonious and ignorant. Would you have treated a group of men differently???

Yes !!

Hang on, let me get this right...

Men's comp is 11am. You are not playing in this men's comp. You are playing a regular 3-ball an hour before hand. Correct?

If so, why the hell would anyone in your group try and claim mens' comp rights when you're not playing in it?

Had you simply asked them if they minded letting you through as you had kids to pick up, and you won't hold them up, the onus is then on them to be a) kind, or b) unkind.

Should they choose b, then rant away.

However, I feel you nullified that by trying to take the p***!

Yes there are some men who will insist on going out an hour before the Ladies on Ladies day and I'm sure this was a contributing factor towards their attitude today.
When I first saw them I was not unduly worried as my wife always complains that the other Ladies play too fast out here, so we may not get held up.

It's an official club comp but as always players whether green fee or members are more than welcome to play before it gets going .This really was not the issue and James was wrong for using that as his opening gambit.

The issue was, that a slower group was holding up a faster group and as is stipulated by the first tee should give way.

From the time they left the 3rd green to leaving the 4th tee, we'd played up and holed one of our putts. Their slowness had intimated to us a call through was imminent.

We weren't looking for "rights" over them and would have been no different if it was male golfers.

Up until today the only time I've raised my voice on the course is to shout Fore or in anger at a wayward tee shot and then it's more of an Hurmph .

I don't believe our behaviour was obnoxious or ignorant it was born out of frustration and a sinking feeling that we were destined for a very slow round.

Yes we were in the comp and on most Wednesday's at least 5-7 groups have already started by 11 am. We also have starters from the 14th and 9th to ensure we finish before it gets dark. On the whole it's lot more relaxed down here although I'm sure this is coming across as not.

As mentioned above James was wrong in using the men's comp as an excuse.

When I first saw them I immediately let out a huge sigh, I couldn't believe it, even though my wife always complains that the other Ladies play too fast out here, so we may not get held up.

It's an official club comp but as always players whether green fee or members are more than welcome to play before it gets going .This really was not the issue, it was just the case that they were women and on our golf course, although I suppose James was wrong for using that as his opening gambit.

The issue was however that they were women, how dare they! Its stipulated on the first tee that women should give way to men at all times as men are the best!

From the time they left the 3rd green to leaving the 4th tee, we'd played up and holed one of our putts. Their slowness had caused us to become intimidating and suggest that a call through was imminent whether they liked it or not.

We were looking for "rights" over them as thats the way its suppose to be isn't it. Should it have been male golfers we would have put up with it as me and the others would have been too shy/scared to cause a fuss.

Up until today the only time I've raised my voice on the course is to shout Fore belatedtly after aiming at female golfers or in anger at a wayward tee shot which to be fair is quite often.

I believe our behaviour was obnoxious and ignorant, born out of frustration and a knowing feeling that we were destined for a very slow round behind the other species.

Just mucking about with ya fella.

:D

Ash!!
