Was following it yesterday, -11 after 11 holes - incredible.

Don't think the course par matters as though you need to be more under par to score the magical 59 on a par 72 than 70, there are usually more par 5s affording birdie, eagle chances.

I would say yes, if its a 70 or par 69 it's not as much under par (yes I know thats stating the obvious) but -12 or more is exceptional.

But its still special yes ?

Just a little less gloss on it than if its off a par 72 ?

A 59 is a 59 - mind you it should really have been a 58.

And a 59 on a par 72 is much better than a 59 on a par 70.
I reckon most Pros would rather be 12 under par and shoot a 60 rather than be 11 under and shoot a 59....
One shot nearer winning.

Now thats a cracking way of putting it - i reckon you are not far wrong but i wonder if there some that would prefer the 11 under for the 59 ?

Interesting re relationship to par. On the pro tours the length of the par 4/5s seems quite variable. You can have par 4's over 500 yards and anything under 550 seems pretty much reachable in 2 possibly with a drive and an iron irrespective of par. So how relevant is par?

Yes - 12 is better than -11 but 59 is one shot less than 60.

-12 on a par 72 is better than -11 on a par 70 - as far as the Pro is concerned as that is what their scores are based against.
Single rounds are often referred to as the actual number, eg 64, 61 but overall position is determined in relation to par- regardless of the actual par.
