Do you subscribe to the point that no man is bigger than the team? Or the fact that you should pick the best players available and expect the management to be able to handle the player???

For me it's time to rebuild and he shouldnt play. I'm sure things have happened behind closed doors that we dont know about......come September when parties can speak to the press it will all come out.

Wouldn't pick him and shouldn't have after text gate

On what are you basing your "I wouldnt pick him".

On known ability and form he is in the best 6 batsmen in all 3 formats of the game in England so should play.
The rest is heresay but seems to only be coming from certain quarters, a lot of the dressing room claim hes been no problem.

So until given some real reasons for not picking him, and having a weak spineless captain who cant manage him isnt one of them, then yes 100% he should be picked.

Lets be brutally honest, the ECB are embarassing themselves greatly, they promised a press release at 3pm today, that was then 6pm and still hasnt surfaced (because the lawyers are trying to cover their backs)

I usually go to many England games each year, wont be spening up to £100 a ticket if they refuse to pick their best players and not give a valid reason

Edit: I see theyve finally released their statement over 3 hrs late which basically says we can do what we want and we're not telling you why. The utter arrogance, and incompetence, of those running the ECB currently seem to be in equally high levels, shame theyre ruining a sport I used to love (and if you think I just mean the KP situ then have a look at the 3 way carve up theyre creating with CA and the BCCI whilst screwing the rest of world cricket)

Yes every single day of the week.

He is Englands best batsman by a mile and players of his ability and quality should be in that team.

I don't believe everything that's said about him, i'd rather build my team around than rely on Trott,Root,Bell etc

I'm not a cricket fan at all. But KP comes across as been a arrogant (insert appropriate word)
Seems like he's more interested in been a celeb.

Listened to a lot on the radio and TV over the past week. Two defined camps now evident. IMO he was badly managed and was able to become bigger than the team. For that reason, I'd leave him out. He came back all repentant after the IPL debacle a few years back. Trouble was he didn't carry it through. Better without his spectre affecting team sheets for the next few years.

His arrogance pales into insignificance compared to those who are supposedly running English cricket

I agree the ECB have mismanaged the whole affair.

It's pretty apparent the KP can't get on in a team environment. He is our best batsman, but doesn't play for the team. He's got an inability to rein in his style when the situation dictates.

I voted to not pick him but it makes me sad that we won't see him in an England shirt again, I'm not sure you could give him a third chance

It starts with a strong coach, and then a strong Captain. If you have those you should be able to manage strong players. Sacking a good player because he has attitude... its the weak way out.

Grow some bails, take the guy behind the changing room and blast him up hill and down dale. Then get out on the pitch and do what you are both supposed to do.

Alternatively, have a team of second rate yes men.

This latest statement has proved yet again that its a typical old boys network running a supposed professional sport. How the likes of Gooch and Saker still have coaching roles after the winter typifies this type of set up and clearly theyve got the yes man in Cook that they want as skipper. Im becoming a black caps fan haha

Can never understand why it is with Pietersen's supporters that he is a big part of the team being successful it is never anything to do with him when they get beat.

At 33 with dodgy knees and a falling average now is probably the right time to get rid of him regardless of any off-field issues.

Would Portugal not pick Ronaldo just because has a bit of an ego....?
Don't remember Australia dropping Warne because he was a bit outgoing....

KP is a match winner.

Obviously England don't want to win...

He clearly didnt get as many runs as youd have wanted him to this winter, but he got more than anyone else. Seriously you think the likes of Joe Root and Ravi Bopara are better options for the T20 World Cup? If Im paying £100 for a days ticket at Lords this summer against India I know who I want to be watching if England bat, and KP is top of the list still.

PS If you can, catch the KP greatest innings on sky later, not too mnay other from this generation theyll be making that sort of programme about (Bells might last 10 minues)

Im really interested to see why they have not picked him.

What would you do if (and am purely speculating here) KP has said to the ECB, "look, Im 34 and want to coin it in while I still can and play in the IPL, Big Bash, Ram Slam, English t20 and the Bangladeshi t20. Therefore, i'll pick and chose my Test series, odi series etc etc".

If they use pietersen as a scape goat for the winter then they are idiots, gooch and saker should follow flower out, the tour seemed to be fundamentally mismanaged.

What concerns me about KP is that he's seen off moores, seen off Strauss and flower, there must be a major issue with the bloke in a close team environment and you have to draw the line sometime.

He was lucky to come back after textgate IMO.

That is perhaps the point,

Living on past glories. Cricket is an individual sport played within a team environment and KP has struggled with the second part of that ever since he came to England, and that is not just hearsay unless I am to dismiss statements made by people involved.

Ultimately they have little choice but to allow him what was agreed when this was discussed a few years back and he agreed to play less IPL then for more flexibility later. The funny thing is since they claimed he had to commit to all formats for England etc they then have chose to rest him more than ever (why didnt he play either the odis or t20s this winter)?

At the end of the day he has an England contract and has to abide by that (which he has done) if he had chosen to break his contract to play more IPL (as say Chris Gayle did) then the argument would be very different and the ECB would be far more justified in changing things.

Strong management wouldve sat down and agreed schedules with him which would have been reviewed on a regular basis, as they should be doing with all their players, and tried to find the right balance. This clearly hasnt happened and there has been ongoing battles between the 2 sides, often conducted in public.

Hes by far blameless, but hes also clearly being hung out to dry by an old boys network who clearly are unable to run english cricket for the benefit of the country and the fans as a whole
