Had the monthly stableford today. I was still pretty knackered with a few blisters from my exploits on Friday but mildly optimistic given the way I had played. I ended up with 37 points with a blob but left at least three points out there (including three bunker shots at the first as I went from greenside right to greenside left and back again before single putting for a point). I went out in 19 and back in 18. I didn't hit the ball nearly as well as I did on Friday and to be honest I was much more tense and played with less freedom and seemed more worried about the score rather than the hit it and find it golf we enjoyed.

I did have a few bad breaks including hooking my 2nd at the 16th into the trap short and left and having to play off one knee to get anywhere near the ball and pitching dead centre of the 3rd and kicking nearly 90 degrees left into the rough.

I'm not sure where I finished but doubt it will be good enough for any vouchers and maybe top 5 at best but I'll get a small cut depending on the CSS. It's actually a great feeling to have played well in a competition again after all the trials and tribulations of my game in recent months

Well done Homer.
Its a great felling knowing that you've done well even though in your own mind you feel you werent hitting the ball that well....It shows character and determination.

Great stuff Homer, you certainly seemed to be playing with a certain amount of freedom on Friday and it's great that you were able to play well again today witn a card in your hand.

Hopefully this will help you to play more freely in comps from now on, the game is definately in there.

I played my NAPGC regional final at Tilgate Forest today. I played OK but couldn't buy a putt, I putted well but just couldn't get them to drop so I think I must have used them all up on Friday.

The course was in a Tilgate Forest (hence the name) and every hole was tree lined so anything offline was in real trouble. As a result I lost a few balls on the back 9 with tired drives, I was definately still feeling the effects of Friday.

Still I didn't play too bad but I won't be getting a visit to Woodhall Spa in August.

That's where I 'learned' to play... shocking course best kept for when you need to play golf with a mate who doesn't own golf shoes! Not holing any putts round there is nothing new :D

Well done on your recent form Homer, a cut is a cut :)

Still gutted I threw it away. How do you take the positives away when you hit a bad tee shot (lost ball) and hit two woeful shots with just 8 iron and wedge in hand. Any of those properly executed would have done. What do guys do when you know you've thrown away a winning opportunity or the chance at a career best score?

Be happy that I got myself into that position in the first place, and look forward to the next game.

I accept the fact that I play off 11 and am gonna hit crap shots at some point. It's frustrating yes but beating myself up ain't gonna help. Playing under my handicap isn't supposed to be easy. If I'm in that position, I've hit a lot more good shots than bad so I forget the bad and think about the good.

A few months ago I shot 80 with a treble on the 1st and then shot 78 with a treble on 15. My initial feeling was that I was happier with the 80 after starting with a treble than with the 78. At the end of the day though, bad shots are bad shots and on both occasions prevented me equalling or breaking my PB. Hitting bad shots at the beginning or the end is irrelevent and playing off our handicaps we are gonna hit them but don't let them hide the fact that you played well.

Positives? Positives?

Why does it have to be all about winning Homer?
It was only a week or two ago that you were posting on here about having the incurable shanks. Woe is me. What am I going to do? I can't see a future etc. etc.
Now you are moaning about "positives".
You seem to have got over the shanks.
That's a positive. A big positive.
You've also got a wife that allows you the freedom to play or practive whenever you want. That's another positive.
I've come to the conclusion that you are never happy.
If it's not your driving it's your irons. If it's not your irons it's your chipping. God knows how much time you spend on the putting green trying to perfect your putting stroke, and even that goes tits up with alarming regularity.
If golf pisses you off so much, why do you continue to eat, breathe, sleep and dream the fecking game so much?
Just be thankful, very thankful, that you have so much spare time on your hands to continue in your quest for glory.
That's another positive.
I'd love a few positives.
But unfortunately I've got to go to work.

And good morning to you too :D :D :D

Smiffy

Glad to see our resident grumpy old man is alive and well today. I think you are missing ht epoint to a degree. Yes I'm luckier than a lot in that HID lets me play and practice whenever and certainly that it is positive that I can get it going roughly where I want itand not straight right anymore.

The frustration is getting into a position to contend after such a long time and then blowing it by hitting two crap shots with just an 8 and a wedge. I wouldn't mind if I'd taken a par 5 on or played a risky recovery and it hadn't come off. Still like you say, I guess there is plenty to be happy about.

I'll leave you to practice your Victor Meldrew impression (it's coming along nicely)

Watch the professional cock it up over the last few holes. That helps make me feel better when I do it. These guys get paid for playing and screw up.

Time to chillax and accept whatever the golfing Gods send you.

I would love to score 27 points nevermind 37.

This isnt the same Homer that lost his mojo recently is it?nice to see your enjoying the game again Martin and playing well again.I do agree with Smithy a little have you ever heard the phrase[take a posotive from a negative].
