3rd MP-57 - WOW! Averaged 186yrds and 3yrds off the centre of the fairway. Even managed to hit one 192yrds (including roll, think it was 186yrds carry). These were fantastic and felt perfect off the club face.

6 irons? tested on a virtual machine?

ARGHHH.....DON'T DO IT......

I got fitted using a vector launch only (or whatever it was called in 1997) and it was a bunch of lies.....wasted hundreds of quid, never hit the ball well afterwards.

GO TO MIZUNO! PLEASE....someone is pulling your leg.....

Right, I've said it, I'll say no more.

Nothing personal......

I will confirm for sure!

Dont be surprised if the pro at Clays tells you he wants to bring your TOTAL distance down. I was at first but then he explained it was more than necesary so my dispersion was better.

My Carry distance was improved ever so slightly but total distance shortened, because, the new shafts were spinning the ball so much, they were stopping the ball almost stone dead, and this is exactly what you want, rather than the ball running off an extra 30 yards and through the green.

My Yardages before fitting for a 6iron were

Carry 140 Total 160 Rougly

My Yardages after fitting with the 6 iron

Carry 150 total 155 Roughly.

It was so hard to hit and hold greens with the first distances, when I would see the first bounce on the green I would be pleased, walked to the green and ball would be 10 yards through back.

Now I know if I hit the green, 9/10 I am staying on!

RGDave - Nothing personal taken mate, I agree with you! Perhaps the setting on the launch monitor was on Arizona, USA which is why the ball was flying further. If they had set it to Droitwich then would have only got 150yrds!

Tony, I currently get a 5 yrds (if that) roll on my MX-15 6iron anyway as the cavity is quite big it gets the ball airbourne very quickly.

A 20yrd roll on your old 6iron! What was your shot shape like?

I know its an old addage, but I would rather be 5-10yrds shorter and be on the fairway than 5-10yrds longer and in the rough! So not bothered about the distance loss. At the end of the day these guys will know what they are doing and I will trust in what they are telling me.

187 with a 6 iron you will be needing 5 wedges if you keep that up:)

I dont see there is much need to hit a 6 any more than 170 otherwise all your yardages will be messed up and you will have a massive gap at the bottom of the bag

Control with your irons is needed more than distance with good dispersion

In a ideal world when you try some irons out its good to hit the spec into the wind to see how they fly, with those kind of distances they could ballon all over the show

My shot shape was poor with the old irons. It was very flat And just ran out for ages.

The new flights are slot better. They rip through the air climbing all the way and fall softly.

Pumpkin, or should I call you Peter,

anyway definitely reccomend Clays, after trying with the techno stuff you can go onto the range which is there, by far the best set-up I've seen around.

Also you can have a fitting in the shop if you want and try different makes of irons,(just make sure you make the appointment with them and not with the Mizuno centre)

Guy in there is also excellent, when I went for a driver fitting he made a point of taking me on the range after trying out on the techno kit you can really see the different effects of shafts and clubs on distance and especially dispersion.
IMO it's much better than the tech stuff, that only gives a guide.

Peter,

if they are better is open to opinion, I just found the guy in the shop did a great job and thought it would give you the option of looking at more manufaturers and not just Mizuno.

I just called the number on the web site.

Hi Peter, I spent 4 months trying to pick my new golf gear so i wouldnt hurry into anything. I managed to narrow it down to ping s57's, taylor made tour preferred, and mizuno mp-67's...after finally getting out on a proper course practice area i went for the taylor mades.....if it had been down to a driving range the TM's wouldnt have been in the bag at all. Everyhting changed outside, I also went for the project x 6.0 shafts which gave me a more penetrating ball flight (ideal for a course on the scottish coast).

Another wee tip if your buying a few items might be to contact the rep thru your local pro, I did and he threw in free umbrella, towel, pitch mark repairer, 24 tp red balls and 20% off my tour bag. I did get a new driver, 3- wood, Irons and tour bag mind you.

Thats good info. Thanks Largs.

I am actually looking to get everything changed and custom fitted as my bag (after taking this stupid game up 12mths ago) is full of bargains of the internet and a mixture of Reg, Stiff & E.Stiff shafts of the shelf. I'm looking to pay around £700-£800 so hopefully they will throw in some stuff.

I would love to take the clubs and try them for a round after my fitting sessions, and I after my Ping session on Saturday I tee off for our Monthly Stableford so I'm hoping that they may give me some to try on the course.

Quite simply though if I am not happy with what I see I wont be buying and moving onto the next as I would like to fork out this money once and it last me a good 3 years maybe more.
