just noticed some of my stats

My favourite stat from the weekend..76 shots, it's the only one that counts

I agree completely.

How do you guys find the time and will to record all these stats when you're playing a round? Am I missing something obvious or are you taking notes on every hole?

Most probably use their golf app on their phone like Golfshot

This year (8 rounds), I'm hitting 51% of fairways with 31% going right and 18% left.
I'm only hitting 15% GIR
My scrambling and sand saves are 7% and 6%
Putting is 1.9 shots per hole if I don't make GIR with 2.33 per hole when GIR
I'm averaging 3.9 on par 3's, 5.6 on par 4's and 6.9 on par 5's
I have 1% worth of birdies, 15% pars, 36% bogies and 48% as double or worse

Explains why I'm off 21 and where I need to improve. Looking at my stats for last year though that is actually a little better (excluding fairway hits, which is actually a little worse!)

I've given up recording them this year, but when I was keeping stats it was just a 5 minute job going through the round in my head when I got home.

I record - Fairway Hit (tick the card), score, number of putts - the GIR is worked from that. Enter those 3 criteria into my beloved spreadsheet and watch it give me useful information :-)

This year so far;

42% of fairways
26.5% of greens
Scrambling 12.4%
Sand saves 18.2%
Putts per hole 1.89
Putts per GIR 2.10
Par 3's 4.0
Par 4's 5.3
Par 5's 6.2
Birdies 4%
Pars 26%
Bogies 40%
Doubles 30%

Need to improve scrambling and putting. Fairways are hard to stay on at my course due to sloping fairways

easy now, im defo all about gross, but this season ive started keeping a note of my putts. then I put them onto how did I do and it works it out. it has the facility to input all your stats but thaats for saddos and Amanda :D

36 putts yesterday :( from 14/18 GIR....2 x 3 putts ...5 over gross......don't record my stats normally.....had to go through the round in my head tonight....

I have been tracking my medal stats on HDID since joining Lanark, fairways, greens etc have been fine but putts were really really bad, averaging 41 putts after 3 medals, got it down to 40 after another, queue a new putter on trial, 32 putts 1st time out. I have now bought it, we'll see how it goes from here

I use the golf shot app on my phone as I can't download ss2 as we have a mac! I used to fill in the details on my phone on the way round but now I just do it when I get home, only takes 5 mins. I can usually run through the round mentally pretty easily.

Last ten rounds stats are

FIR - 60%
GIR- 14%
Putts - 1.98

a bit like the op my putting stats are distorted by a low GIR as my chipping isn't too shabby so looks better than it is.

I use golfshot GPS and find it a fantastic tool to analyse trends in respect of good and bad performance. I've really worked hard at improving my GIR and short game and whilst these areas have improved, it's my putting that has really made the difference to my scoring. I'm now averaging 1.8 putts per GIR and 1.7 putts per hole, an improvement of 0.2 in each case which doesn't seem a lot but adds up over the course of a round.

I asked the question on a thread in February about improving GIR and quite a few of the replies focused on improving other aspects of my game (scrambling, putting) to take the pressure off having to hit a high GIR %. It seems they were on to something (thanks mr mackie et al) as my GIR has also improved. Hitting 12/14 fairways in the last round didn't hurt either...:D. Now just waiting for that 1 step backwards to hit me...

Oh and those wedges I bought from James (JT77) have been fantastic as well - especially that 50* Mizzie!

FIR is not a stat I consider important. Driver is purely to get the ball up there sufficiently to make GIR.

I subtract GIRs from Putts to get a hash figure that varies somewhat for the various courses I play - though anything below 28 is petty good. Hitting 3-wood as 2nd shot is less likely to make GIR than with 6 or 7 iron and is likely to result in more difficult up and down too.

Keeping stats for more than 1 or 2 subsequent rounds is just noise imo.
