It must be something in the wind just now. Read Stuart's post yesterday and thought, oh no not another one.

Sorry to hear that mate and fingers crossed something turns up very soon for you.

I was told last Monday that I was in danger of being made redundant and the consulatation process was in progress. Knowing the machinations of the firm I knew it was a done deal and between my wife and I we just agreed to waive that part of the process and progress straight to redundancy. I have still to get my final settlement figures but am leaving at the end of the month.

A bit like Stuart I was previously self employed, in fact my current employers bought over my business almost 10 years ago.
That will be an option for me again but will be looking at all possibilities first.
My first thoughts of why me ? have gone and am looking forward to facing the future with a positive attitude. First time this has happened to me or anyone in my direct family to it is taking a little to get used to it. I have a few days holiday to use before the end of the month and am being paid in lieu of notice. That salary payment and redundancy money helps cushion the blow in the short term, just hope that there is some work out there.
It is symptomatic of the current economic climate that hardly a few days go by but you hear about someone else being paid off :(.

My official title is Architectural Technologist, which sounds quite grand but basically I prepare Architectural Drawings for all types of domestic and commercial projects as well as offering advice on all construction projects.

I'm sure it'll be the start of something good for you Alan. If I sell this house of mine and manage to find a nice plot you'll be first to get a call, followed by Davie for the plumbing!

;)

Sorry to hear, the constuction business has taken a real hammering lately. My brother [FRICS] recently retired as a director of a smallish building firm on the East Coast. Came just in time for him as they have been struggling for the last few years.
They have had full order books for over 50 years and never any trouble up till now.

I'm feeling your pain here Alan, I hope it's not too long til your back in a job fella

Very sorry to hear that and the very very best of luck moving forward!

sad news Alan, the construction industry has taken a beating these last 2 yrs, you wouldnt think it by the amount of building and renovation work going on. As i recommended on the other thread register with a few construction related agencies, there is still work out there. Try Search, Hudson, change, e-scape all in Glasgow, all big but I'm sure there are some good smaller ones.
Good luck.

I had the pleasure of playing with Alan on Sat. And with the exception of a couple of holes WHY don't you go on the tour. Very impressed with the way this guy hits the ball (16) handicap if he is looking for a new partner for the 4 ball give me a shout.
Having been in the building trade and very glad to be out of it why does this country not get back to working with all the poor housing we have this is where in my opinion the government need to target.
We have young people who leave school unable to read and write and could not care less about it because there is no work for them. I know this is a big problem and a couple of lines from me will not change anything but if we do not train youngsters how are we going to build in the future.
Alan keep positive and good luck.

Sorry to hear your news. I got made redundent right at the start of the first round of the recession and it took me two and a half years to find a job. Hope you find something soon.

Thanks for all the posts guys, really overwhelmed with the replies, much appreciated

I will update you all soon, once my redundancy payment is all sorted.

Bill, if you can arrange a transfer fee with Andy T you're on !

Moogie, down your way at the weekend playing Friday and Sunday for definite hopefully we can catch up.

So I take it u are playing Invitation Day at our place......??

Or are u just playing somewhere Local....??

Fingers crossed the weather picks up, we had a canny downfall last night.....!!

This is bad situation to be in it.
However for someone with a 16 HC, think of it like having a bad day at the course. If you allow yourself to wallow in self pity, then you will hit the downward spiral. However a man of your ability will be able to lift yourself, dust off and get ready for the next round.
Like the beautiful game, you cannot control all the variables, but the only thing that you can do is relax and come back and fight another day.
Also like the game, keep your head steady (and high), and you will swing well.

Good luck with your move.... and do keep us posted.
