Your thoughts. Team comp, four of us. Playing the 400 yard 7th at Royal Musselburgh. Hit a decent tee shot into the wind, pins up the back and the greens fairly soft, so it's playing longish. So I go for a little cut with a 5 iron to feed it in between the two front bunkers as the pin was back right.

Ready to pull out my club as this guy walks down from the 13th fairway that runs about 40/50yards over the back of the green we're playing. We notice his ball near the front bunker of our green, just right of centre. He's obviously sliced his shot, he stops and waits to play his shot while we're wondering what he's doing. It became clear he was waiting, rightly for safety sake, for the four players who were on the 1st green down to our right, roughly the direction he was going.

So were saying what's he doing, why stop us if he clearly has to wait. The four guys were on the 1st green, he couldn't play his shot but he still stood in front of the green we were waiting to play into. I then shouted to him "what are doing".

He didn't look happy, but he moved aside and thankfully I played a lovely cut to within 15 feet or so. We all play our shots and this guy eventually plays his shot. He chuks it, throws his club Rory style and gives me some serious looks as he walks away. I get the evil eye few times more as he walks away.

A couple of my playing partners tell me he's on the council. My first thought, what a tool, he should have known better.

Sounds like the type who thinks he is above everyone else and how dare you challenge him. . Naughty boy.

A lack of thought and possibly in his own world fuming from a bad shot. He should have moved and no excuse for hitting a shot. I wouldn't give the fact he's on the council a second thought

Does it really matter if he is on the council or not?

He was acting very inconsiderately to your group, all you done was asked him if you could play up while he was waiting. He is probably upset he hit a bad shot judging by where he ended up with his previous shot it is unlikely your group caused this problem more likely his ability or lack of.

No, you're right, it doesn't matter, they were just saying he should know better. He even referees in the club championships.

thats not an altercation- nose to nose with details of what you are going to do to each other is an altercation- This guy prob blames everything for his bad play

Some people can think of nothing but themselves. Seems he is one of those.

Regardless of whether he has to wait for anyone else before he can play, he's on the wrong hole and should "give way until there's nothing coming."

I'm I the only one left slightly let down by the ending? I was hoping for a bit more than a guy standing in the way and a bit of distant shouting :D

He sounds like a bit of a knob though.

It appears to me that some people play golf in order to find an opportunity to take offence. In the overall scheme of things, the chap may have done the wrong thing but does it really matter? I just don't believe that those who complain about the poor conduct of other players, never find themselves behaving less than well. Just ignore how others behave and enjoy the game.

In some cases I would agree with you. In this case, the guy was holding up play behind him, so ignoring it is difficult. Of have been asked with this alright.

And yes, the guy sound like a berk.
