Now I'm normally a bushmills and balvennie man but tried this at the weekend and was quite impressed.

Very reasonable price at sainsburys too.

Anyone else like this? Got any preferences/recommendations for whisky at a reasonable price? (under 40 quid a bottle)

Try Royal Lochnagar.

A fusion of just about everything that is 'distinctive' in other whiskies. A few say that means it's 'undistinctive', but I think it makes it perfect. From (distant) Jura seemed a slightly lighter, sweeter version missing a few elements.

A certain supermarket that pats your ass! have some good offers on at the moment. £17 a bottle for glen Moray, super smooth, light, and quaffable to the max. They have Abalour also for £18 these are 2 super malts for next to nothing.

I have been to the Jura distillery......nice place and Superstition is quite decent.

Aberlour Abundah is superb.

Black Bottle for a 'cooking' whisky is best value.

10 year old Talisker is best of the bunch before you start spending lots of Scottish pounds.

Bunnahabhain is a good one too, although I've yet to see this in the supermarkets.

I popped a bottle of Glenfarclas 105 on Saturday night and was very impressed. Usual Speyside quality, subtle with a great explosion of flavours once its down. It was a present and not one I'd have bought myself but it'll certainly be on my watch list from now.

We used to give that to customers at Christmas, cracking bottle

That's a mighty strong one
