Juniors in Mens Comps

Unfortunately at ours they have there own Comps as do the ladies, One won the Captains Day a few years ago and was refused first prize as they had a seperate prize for the Juniors!!
Think it's terrible but when questioned it seems to come down to them not paying the same fees as "grown ups"..........sad, very sad.
We do however have a very active Junior Section that works.

We had a Junior win the gross in our captains but could only win the junior prize , Ok if you wana restrict them winning the overall do so ( I wouldn't, but ) but gross is best score , best golf , Chap represents the club in adult comps aswell

When I was a junior I was allowed in the full comps after acquiring a handicap of 18 and was eligible to win the competitions without any problems. It's how I think these things should be run and that if the juniors are good enough and meet the entry criteria (be that age or handicap related) there should be no barriers on them and providing they pay the full entry fee they should be able to win.

Interested to hear how the clubs that allow free range to juniors in their adult comps have dealt with this in their Child Protection Policy and how their appointed CPO views it all.

Worse part was the fact that they didn't mention the "special" Junior prize until they realised he'd won!

Suggest you read the England Golf guidance on the subject.

Absolutely disgusting, anyone who thinks or agrees that juniors should not be allowed to enter men's comps. If you have an active handicap that was obtained from the mens tees then you should be eligible. All this 'special prize' s@@@ is dreamt up by bitter twisted old men who are jealous that a kid 40 years younger than them can kick their ass round a golf course.

I was fortunate enough as a junior to be part of a club, Stoke Rochford near Grantham, that actively encouraged juniors to play. They had the foresight to know they are the future of the club and to alienate them would drive them away so loosing full paying members of the future.

The only restriction they did have was you needed an 18 handicap or better. I can understand that, as you do not want some 10 year old kid playing in the medal off a starting handicap of 28, that struggled to play to it.

They never had booked tee times for medals, just turn up and play. But it was known that at 12:00 all the low handicappers would turn up and make up 3-balls for the medal. Once I got to cat 2 I started to join my dad and his fellow low handicappers for the medal and was made to feel more than welcome, as did 2 other juniors that are now teaching professionals.

When I was 15 I remember knocking out one of the best players in the club from the scratch singles match play. I had a good day and he was a bit off form, he wasn't bitter about it, he shook my hand, took me in the clubhouse and bought me dinner. OK I did feel sorry for him because he took a bit of stick for it, getting knocked out by a 15 year old 10 handicapper when your currently the club champion
