I'm looking for a little feedback on what level your clubs have set the subscription rates for their Juniors. Is is a flat one size fits all sub or are their age related bands ?

Are there major restrictions on when Juniors can play ? or are they reasonably catered for ?

Any other info or considerations most welcome.

Thanks

Dave, Dunbar Golf Club Juniors are £70 per year with no joining fee. Youths, 18 to 24, pay only £237 with no joining fee....what a great deal. Royal Musselburgh...not sure, nothing on the web site, poor show that, I'll try and find out later.

My children are members at 2 clubs, one club its £180 per year with no restrictions to tee times but not sure if thats because they are cat 1 players, the other club is £500 per year and are restricted to after 11am in winter and after 12 in the summer.

£200 at mine until they are 18 or working I think. If they continue as an adult member, no joining levy added. I don't think they are allowed to play before 10 at weekends, other than that, they can play when they like. We have a very strong junior section, one of our lads won the Nick Faldo series this year. My 11 year old son's a member and must have played a good 60 or 70 rounds this season. Good value for money methinks.

Circa £100 at my current club. No playing restrictions although when they enter a club comp, there can't be 3 juniors playing together, at least one adult member has to be in the group.

£175 (I think) with no joining fee until 18. They are restricted as to how far in advance they can book tee times. Only Cat 1 juniors can enter adult full member comps. After their 18, the fees rise to intermediate rates which are set at 50% the full adult single fee.

i'm not entirely sure what the fee's are at callander g.c but i think it's similar to what tommo21 said for his own.

at killin the junior fee's are about £75 and there is no restrictions, they even have a junior night during the summer months which literally takes over the clubhouse and course from 5pm onwards.......

seems a big variation in junior fees my nephew pays £30 @ Painswick (gloucester) with no restrictions other than 3 juniors cant play together in adult medals, other clubs in the area charge £125-£150.
At York its £52 (6 to 13) and £104 (13-18) with on restrictions

At North Manchester it is

Ours are having a junior night this Friday. We do have restrictions that they can only play in full comps after they reach 28 handicap,or they play off 28 if they are higher and want to play anyway. I think we also insist one adult with a group of 2 or 3 in comps.

Brilliant attitude towards juniors there Wull, I wish all clubs would treat juniors with respect. All juniors should be encouraging juniors and assisting them with development.

Heartily agree. I was fortunate enough to learn the game at a club where juniors were encouraged and supported.

The result was that most of us still play and love the game 20 years later, and we had a really strong team and produced some excellent players. One of them, Carl Petterson, now plies his trade on the PGA Tour.

When i was a junior it was £70 a year, going up to £800 on reaching 18! No middle ground

Restrictions were-

only after 3.30pm on a Saturday
not between 5.30 and 6.30pm on weekdays
not between 10.30 and 12.30 on a Sunday
Seniors always had priority on the tee

It's a wonder any of us stuck it. Juniors are the lifeblood of the club and should be actively encouraged.
I think things have changed a lot though

Dave ,i'm £52 for my son he 's 12 ,he will be that till he's 14 then 14-18 is £100 then 18-21 is £235 then full whack after that. He's getting his lessons just now which are £16 for a block of 4 an hour at a time and he love's it.

Up to age 18 it's £145 per year and £1 per round. Full membership rights for all. We have 36 holes and an excellent short game practice facility. The junior section seems to be thriving, so I guess that they are doing something right!

There are also various reduced membership schemes for 19-25 year olds.

Clubs have recognised that between the ages of 16 and 30, an awful lot of things happen and they are trying to keep ex-juniors interested in becoming lifelong members.

My little fella is getting membership in April as an under 5 although he already spends time with me on the practice area and putting green quite happily. The pro staff love seeing him run around hitting balls on there.
