Jordan

Only repeating what someone who works with these players said to the Aimpoint class. No more than that.

Would have you believed everything he told you? It's absolute rubbish. Spieth is one of the best players in the world tee-to-green, he's exceptional on the greens, but his all round game is superb. He's had a couple of bad rounds, but that doesn't mean he's going to have a bad year, hell, he's already smashed the field to win one tournament this year. Spieth will be back firing, and will contend in all the majors.

So 4th in shots gained tee to green over the 2015 season equates to " isn't seen as stellar in too many facets of the game"

Why do people make such stupid statements - just because he doesnt bomb it he had the best all round game last year (and hence the lowest scoring average) and turned up in every major, you seriously think you do that just by holing out well from 12-20 feet

You don't get to 50,000 posts talking sense.

Homer is one of these people who have achieved nothing in the game or probably any game and just loves knocking people.

Once again Homer is not convinced, surprise, surprise.

Just a question why do people believe everything someone says instead of using their own initiative or knowledge.

Speith is a quality player pure and simple.

Will need to get himself a forum name though. OneSeasonWonder ?

I think this would be better:

As I said in my earlier post, clearly overrated!! :whoo:

I think this is largely down to the big gap between his performance last year to his early season form.

Last year, he hardly put a foot wrong, almost never hit a bad shot, and his putting was out of this world. He was head and shoulders above the rest and rightly got to no 1.

This year, from his current performances, is not close to how he was performing last year. Mainly on the greens, he's missing putts now that were as good as gimmes last year. But compare him against his peers and he's performing ok, just a long way from his level last year.

Is he done ? Doubt it. Will he be able to perform like he did last year, maybe, but that is going to be tough year to follow for anyone.

He's mentally strong, his putting isn't as hot as it was but he's still got that in his locker.

I think this year may be a transition. There's a tipping point for players where it becomes all about majors and wins in other tournaments are incidental. Last year, he played loads, got hot and won loads. He's now at a different level, and building towards the Masters. But not just towards it, like 95% of the field, but to win it like the remaining 5% - McIlroy, Scott, Phil, Bubba, Fowler and maybe Day.

Also, his team will have assessed what he needs to do to get better (distance of the tee) so have made tweaks and it looks to me like he's hitting it further. Like the rest of us, this improvement has come at the expense of some other facets - it's a fine line, but he's dedicated and I think he's well equipped to find a balance.

Just like 2013 when McIlroy was written off, it's premature (and incorrect) to similarly write Spieth off.

Indeed - when you factor in Adam Scott back in form; Fowler starting the season very well; Rory (hopefully) having a full season; Jason Day possibly kicking-on from his first major; Bubba a two-time major winner; what Dustin Johnson could do if his brain ever wakes up together with the continued improvement and maturity of Danny Willet, Andy Sullivan, Shane Lowry to name but three, it's going to be a huge ask for him. It's still too early in the season to judge him.

Had a discussion on this in the pga and tour thread with somebody other week and they kept saying how good he is and that Jordan doesn't need to hole putts to score good...

when he doesn't hole putts he is nothing super special.

I dont think he will win a major or WGC this year. Maybe one win. (Excluding Hawaii)

Brilliant  :whoo: er, if he doesn't hole putts what is he going to score?!!! :) I take it this was from someone across the pond, living in rural Georgia, who plays a banjo quite a lot and drinks a fair bit of home-brew moonshine?!!!

Cannot remember who it was but they have probably posted in this one somewhere saying how good he is tee to green.
Mental I know.

Yes, there are a few on here who fit the 'banjo playing; moonshine guzzling' description!!!

I noticed this in Hawaii I think. He was definitely swinging his driver harder but looked like he was having trouble controlling it. Can anyone say 'Luke Donald' !

As I've said before, it would be near impossible to keep his form going as statistically he had gone through an incredible (and exceptional) period and the law of averages will catch up with him. He will win again, no doubt, but I think we've seen a once-in-a-career run of form that he will struggle to repeat. Happy to be proven wrong though, it's just open speculation relating to my gambling picks.

Also, I saw this the other day. I'd be interesting to see what people think of it: https://twitter.com/CoachLockey/status/707688336236945409

It's a consistent oddity in his swing. Could he be working up to a nasty ankle problem in his career?

Interesting, as last year all the talk was about how repeatable his swing was and how it took far less strain on his body in comparison to Rory who is likely to have similar injuries to Tiger. Just goes to show the pressure all of these guys are placing on some part of their body, regardless of how 'easy' their swing looks.
