Do you remember the scene in jaws, where there in the boat they are talking about scars they had and injuries they had.Well my hip and back is hurting so i went to the chiropractor on tuesday and he asked me where it hurt and what caused it,so i told him i thought my bad hip i got from playing golf had caused my back to hurt.As he took a look he noticed my right shoulder was lower than my left so i told him i split my deltoid muscle playing football and had dislocated it 8 times before i had an op to repair it.Then i told him i dislocated my left as well whilst weight training. Then i found myself telling him about my achilles tendenitus that put me out of action for three years, and my knee problem that messed me up for a year and a half.Of course there will be people with worse stories which im looking forward to reading, but i feel as all those years where i was extremely fit have finally caught up with me.Im 45 he says my back was like a 65 year old.Another session on the back tommorow already for beau :)

I've heard some real horror stories over the years about chiropractors. The line "back 20 years older than it should be" is classic sales pitch designed purely to entice you in to a course of treatment.

I went to see a chiropractor last summer following a shoulder injury which I was not sure was muscular or skeletal. After a quick examination the chap started to manipulate my lower back, then clicked my hip, saying that this was the start of the treatment. What utter bollox. There endeth the "treatment". It brought back all the memories of my youth and the treatment encouraged by my mother who was also seeing a chiropractor and who regularly "clicked" her and my hips. It gave me terrible sciatica. Luckily over the years it recovered. Now I have pain again and a new weakness.

No way I'm ever letting clowns like that touch my bones again.

I paid for 12 visits to an Osteopath which did nothing to relieve my bad back. Cutting a long story short, it turned out to be arthritus of the hips - so I could have spent £m and he wouldnt have sorted it

One quick replacement later and things got a whole lot better. Just need the other one done and should be fully fit!

I never realised just how much you used your back until mine went last year. Probably the most miserable 5 months of my life but several sessions with the chiro and daily exercises to strengthen my back and increase flexibility I feel like a new man.

Totally unrelated but along the jaws scar comparison theme I once had the pleasure of looking at my own shin bone after a bad tackle at football. Rather painful at the time but good scar now though :)

Ouch! Only ever seen that once - not a pretty sight. My own football injuries include broken collar bone, wrist, and cheek bone (not all on the same day). Golf is much safer.

I'm quite disheartened by your views on chiropractors. there is one based at a local course where they do a treatment+lesson package deal that I thought to go to.

the fact that she is an absolute doll has of course, nothing to do with it.

He should have referred you to your doctor after a couple of sessions rather than carrying on treating you ......

i agree but they always say that they are getting the problem under control and it willl heal soon. Mugged ... I think!

The basic idea of chiropractic is that disorders in many parts of the body are caused by misalignment of the spine, and can be treated by realignment. They have consistently failed to demonstrate any scientific evidence of this (because there isn't any).

They also sued Simon Singh when he made some, ahem, critical comments about them and their so-called science. I supported Simon Singh and contributed to his libel fund. I wouldn't touch chiropractic with a bargepole.

Now I was referred to an Osteopath by my doctor when I had lower back pain the beginning of last year. At no time did she say it will be cured in 2 sessions - we don't expect miracles do we.

I had 6 sessions which did cost £25 each but as long as I did the exercises I was asked to do I was told my back should ease and the pain would go. Guess what she was right - I still do the exercises and have not had the pain for almost 18 months now. Solving back problems is not always a quick fix.

I couldn't comment on Chiropractors as I have not had the experience of using one but can say the Osteopath I used treated my problem to my satisfaction and I couldn't ask for more than that.

A golfing friend developed a frozen shoulder and was visiting the Osteopath. He told me that it might take up to 2 years to heal with regular visits. In the Daily Mail medical section that week was a write up about frozen shoulders and it said that, left to heal naturally - yep, you've guessed - 2 years!

MMM I dont trust em, they just want your dosh for a bit of massage!

I went on tuesday, all weekend i found it hard to put my socks on,my back felt so tight.I went and after a warm up of the back and a few pushes here and there my back is now so much better,a final session tommorow and for 75 quid total i now feel so much better. As been said its down to alignment of the back and thats what was said, imo they know there stuff and i believe it to be a short term fix,but there arnt many options.I went to the doctor the previous week and they took an x-ray for which im still awaiting the results,so if i never sorted it myself i would still be in pain and unable to play golf.

Tim, Golf is Much Safer Eh, Had a Tee Shot(driver),hit me straight in the Sternum last week,I went down like the preverbial sack of s**t,Not much of a Scar,But hell of a Bruise...

Saw this in the USA one time - the guy in the buggy in front who was part of our 4 ball suddenly let out a dull yelp and careered off and hit a tree - we thought he had suffered a heart attack but he was hit straight on by a ball in the chest - hell of a bruise.
