That's it, I've had enough, I quit.
Senior Matches & comps taking 5 & half hours
Stood on the tee box or in the fairway waiting & waiting.
& the handicaps!!! So cheesed of with having to give 15 or 20 shots, they then proceed to play to about 10.

The handicaps are a work of fiction, how the hell do they get them so high & play to 10 under.
It's not once or twice, I could maybe overlook that, it's virtually every time I play.
Well, I've finally had enough, let them get on with it, I'm done.
At least with the Men's section there is a genuine desire to play the best golf they can & keep a decent & genuine handicap.
Unlike the Seniors who seem to delight in manufacturing a ridiculous handicap.
They are all at it, even those who are the stalwarts of the club.
Rant over.

This is just a total guess, but could they potentially be playing competitions off the back tees and struggling, then the senior matches are off yellow/middle tees where they find it easier?

Doesn't seem to be the same problem here. Our senior competitions are generally faster than the regular medals , though this may be because they are off the middle tees and are usually Stableford in format.

I have seen fewer very low winning rounds in the Seniors than in the regular comps.
Last year I won one with 35 points admittedly in very windy conditions when the PCC was up about three strokes.

I've got a senior stableford coming this Thursday.....mostly guys I'm familiar with and I don't expect to place well. I don't mind. I do mind playing in senior matches with other clubs.....nope. Only done it a few times, but unless they are desperate for someone I don't do them. Slow, people always arguing about handicaps....just not fun for me. But it is the same with regular Open comps, a lot of people only play them so they can play cheaply on another course. Cheating in golf is a big thing.....in my opinion. Not usually tooooo bad at the two clubs I'm at.....or maybe it is and I just don't notice.

In my case you're correct, I'm 67, my hi has recently (in less than 2 months) gone from 5.4 to 7.6 and the reason is low scores off the yellows dropping off and being replaced with scores off the whites in both medals and gp scores. If I play 'average' golf for me I'll shoot 75 or 76 off the yellows, play the same off the whites and I won't break 80, especially if it's windy.

Played with a senior at the weekend, he’s 70 and was getting 12 shots off the whites so his index must still be 9-10. He’s one of those guys that’s 190 yards down the middle every time. He was off 4 under congu.

He said the same thing about senior golf, especially club matches. He’s sick and tired of giving guys 10-15 shots then getting beat 7&6 as they play about 10 shots better than their handicap.

Yes, agree with the OP. We play in 2 senior's leagues and the same teams win each year with rumblings over their handicaps. This season I have rarely received shots and at times am giving up to 10 which makes winning hard, especially as I am giving shots on the very holes where i would receive a shot myself in single golf.

Similarly, our senior's club competitions are usually won with ridiculous scores from a mid to high handicapper. My own HC has come down this year. I could win occasionally when i was off 11-12 and had a great round. Now a great round for me would see me score maybe 37-38 points, so nowhere near the 40+ needed to win.

However, I will keep entering, (a) to play other local courses in matches for a minimal fee and because I like competitive team golf and (b) because I enjoy the banter and company in seniors' competitions, accepting that i will be donating my entry fee to someone with a highish HC most weeks.

I understand the sentiment. I only play Seniors Matches at away courses I want to play. Ive only played once this year.

They are generally not too slow, but some of the handicaps are comical.

One of my buddies was 60 this year. Has a HI of 21. He often gets shots off some old guys well over 70. He's on average, a far better player than that. Although the blow ups that wreck his singles cards, dont really matter in 4BBB. 😉 Hence the appearance of an issue.

We had an instance this year of a guy escaping a cut for a "personal best" because only 11 entered the weekly qualifying comp, and it needs 12 to make it qualifying. (Who made that up?) The handicap committee didn't cut him either.

As the Zealots on here say, "nowt wrong with the process, the clubs have to fulfill their obligations. " That's also true.

There are many types of senior golf
Friendlies
Senior matches against clubs
Senior league
Senior scratch
For me it’s pick the one you like.
I’m a low handicap and hardly ever contend a Stableford comp
Will generally contend in a medal.
I play Senior league and love giving shots as it’s a challenge.
This year myself and other partners have given 15/10 12/8 and 16/14 shots and won.
Love it.

Funnily enough the reasons given by the OP are exactly those that I had for quitting general comps.

Iffy handicaps ruling out any chance of success and being constantly told by those younger than me that 4hr 45mins wasn't a bad time for a comp round.

Mind you I also avoid our Seniors Section as they are a miserable bunch of moaners and their inter- club fixtures involve collar and tie for the post match meal.

So, now aged 76 and a member for 43 years I play friendly golf and enjoy the company and my surroundings ( even hit the odd decent shot still).

I agree. I've played stacks of golf this year but, I have only put in two singles comp cards from my home course all year. 😁

A couple of senior opens in Scotland next week... but the entry fees are a fraction of the visitor rate, so let the 46 point cheating scumbags do as they will! (As long as they do it quickly!) 🤣🤣🤣

We played a senior’s open a few weeks ago and the winning 4-ball in an am-am came in with 95 points.

One, receiving 18 shots, came in on 9 holes, scoring a whopping 26 points. I’ll let you all do the maths, but that’s almost impossible to compete with. Especially when one of his team mates, receiving 14 shots, performed almost as well.

I know, I know. It happens in opens. But since I joined the ranks eligible to play with the over 55’s at these events, I’ve noticed it happening far more often.

Played Vet's yesterday and I said to a chap he must be out of shots by now......

His reply was if I can get this putt I get 9 for 1........bloody 3 shots on a par 5.

Plus with a shotgun start it took 5 hours.....
Did he make it 😳, asking for a friend.😂
