Well, today was my club's April medal and the first time I've played off the white tees.

Normally, with a medal card in my hand I go to pieces.

To start with my driving was poor. As someone in our group stated, I was playing 'woodpecker golf'! I had to hit a provisional on the 1st and the 2nd hole. The 2nd was so bad that my first drive went left into the trees and my second went right into the trees. :(

Bogey, bogey start...

I had a bit of a chat with myself and settled down.

I then played some fairly steady golf - the highlight being the par 5 7th where I was on in two and the eagle putt stayed on the lip...

I turned on 39.

I played the back nine in a similar manner. No birdies but I scored the same - 39.

So, a gross 78, nett 68 and the par for the course is 72 so, all things being equal, I should lose 0.8 and be off 9.1!!!

So, today, I managed to keep it all together with a medal card in my hand and, I managed to get to single figures after 30 years of trying!!! :o

I'm going to have a drink now...

It's been 33 years since I got into single figures but I do still remember being chuffed to bits.
Station championships at Gerrards Cross GC in 1978

Well pleased for you, Cat I next :)

Hold on there, put that champagne back on ice! What's the CSS or if you don't know yet, what's the SSS of the course? Par doesn't come into it I'm afraid!

My glass of red is being raised - great to perform when the card is in hand, very satisfying. You definitely have the swing to go lower, especially when your driving is on song.

Well done mate, great achievement :)

You're correct but in all the comps I've played in at the club, the CSS/SSS has always been 72.

If it's anything other than 72 for this comp I'll be WELL annoyed and berating every club official I can find... :D

You're ok, CSS can only come down one from SSS, it might even go up and get you even lower!

Well done, you are now a golfer ;)!.......
