Tried to open iTunes on my laptop this morning and it's telling me that it can't open due to 'damaged or missing files' and that I should 'reinstall iTunes'. I, stupidly, don't have any of my music backed up and am now worried that if I reinstall iTunes and sync either my iPhone or iPod, all of my tunes will be lost. Is there a way of copying the tunes from my iPod/iPhone back into my iTunes library?

Help! :(

Do you play the music from your laptop usually?

If so, the music will be saved on your hard drive. Uninstalling/re-installing iTunes shouldn't change this. You will just need to tell iTunes where your music is when you've re-installed it.

As Aztecs27 said, reinstalling iTunes should not delete any of your music.

There are various ways to get music off your Ipod and onto your computer should the need arise. I would certainly invest in an external hard drive to back up documents, photos, music etc.

You can pick them up for less than £30 now.

your Ipod keeps all of the music on it in it's hidden files. If you ever lose your library it can all be reinstated. Apple do not tell people this, even if you go direct to them. try here for the instructions.

Not tried this yet but this sounds awesome. Asked the knob in the Apple shop if I could do this because I wanted to buy a new iPod and a lot of my songs are on old/broken pcs and he said this (honestly)- "your iPod is like a tube of toothpaste, once the toothpaste is out of the tube, you can't get it back in".

I said seriously? You're comparing a hard drive with headphones to a tube of toothpaste??
