It's all in the shaft for me

It wouldn't make me leave, I like the course too much for that.

But I think the owner is against the proper comp setup etc

things might change next year with simon coming in he will have a say in things
and maybe get things up and running. in few year time sharpley will go to a private club i think

I think thats daft. Putting his own feeling ahead of what the members may want. I wouldn't join a course if there wasn't regular comps as how are you supposed to test yourself?

It's his idea of the ideal golf course, relaxed, informal, turn up when you want and get straight off.

Works I guess as we have a full membership

Well done again dean mate

88 is fantastic card off 27....some 10/11 shots under 'par'....keep it up

Competitive golf is where its all at with most golfers...especially as you start to improve and confidence picks up.....very surprised Sharpley dont seem to do comps.

Just to add to the opinions... from my experience it's not even as simple as deciding on a shaft you like, then specifying that in every set of irons you buy from then on.

My first irons were great with PX in, bur PX felt horrible in my current set.
I tried a few other clubs out at the weekend and the best combo for me had a PX shaft in again.

I guess it's something to do with matching the shaft weight to the head weight?

Agree with this.
I'd always used s300 in my irons, probably 4sets in 8 years, and was convinced that's what I wanted when I bought my MP 53s.
The s300 lasted about 2 months, they felt awful, as if there was no weight in the club head and they produced a terrible ball flight combined with the 53s.
I bought off the rack thinking I knew what I wanted....ended up getting refitted and finding a shaft much more suitable.

which was?

I also went MP53's and with the nippon shaft they 'custom fitted' I was hitting it shorter and higher than my 12 year old Mizuno's, fitter said the old shafts were stiffer because they were older

dumped them and set on a quest to find the heads and shafts that suit me.........hoping to have something dialled in before next season starts

Can't just be that. Head weights are pretty much standard across all manufacturers - 4-iron 250gms and about 7gm increases as it goes towards PW. Some (eg Ping) do create lighter heads for use with graphite, but like for like they are pretty much identical - even blades versus GIs!

Some shafts either work well or not at all with some heads. S300s seemed dead in CB201s and a (very experienced) fitter stated that that was a typical feel for them in those heads. Felt fine in MP30s though.

WRT to PX. Depending on how long ago you got you 'first' irons, you could have had the 'original' (satin finish) PXs. These were apparently quite a different beast to the (post True Temper takeover) shiny finish ones. Much of the difference in feel is down to how well or badly clubs are built. I've had a couple of changes made to individual clubs, both where tip weights have come loose, and the feel after the re-build has been quite different!

I would have thought that too, but I don't know how else to explain away how some heads feel completely different to others weight-wise just wafting them around light-sabre stylee but with the same shafts in.

I've had a Google around but can't find anything. I'd be interested to see them if anyone does find any official figures.

Here's Joe Kwok's 'standard specs'. Note he mentions US. Asian values could well be different (marginally lighter).

Here are Miura's ones.

As you can see, pretty close really!

Wedges are not standard though. For example, Miura builds them quite heavy to allow for grinding.

I saw the one on golfwrx while I was searching but not the Miura one so thanks for that.
Interesting (or maybe not) that they don't list the head weights for any of the blades. That's where I'd imagine the difference (if there was one) to be.

I'd have thunk that this info would be on all manufacturers sites, but maybe the tolerances are as strict as many would think and they don't want people checking them?

I haven't measured the actual weight, but my miura feels much heavier than my cleveland wedge.

Without fully understanding all of the different spec shafts, there's definitely a difference in my driver since changing the shaft.

Me? I leave it to those with a knowledge of shafts :D

As long as it makes me play better :fore:

I ended up with the Dynalite XP s300, And was fitted at Clays in Wrexham one of the mizuno national fitting centres.
The only problem I've found is that it is quite a high launching shaft, hard to hit knock downs etc, I think You'd struggle if playing a links course every week, but it does give a nice fizzing flight that for me doesn't balloon, All my irons were de lofted 1 degree.
On length and dispersion it was closely followed by the KBS tour 90 I think.
The DG s300 wasn't even mentioned amongst the suitable shafts after using the DNA swing thingy.
