Shankaroo. :D

Got a dose again (not as bad as last year). Every year I get them a few weeks before the start of the qualifiers and true enough, this past week it has been pathetic. Half shots are killing my scoring.
Played Sat and Sunday this weekend, 34 points and 5 shanks then yesterday 40 points and 1 shank on our 8th which gave me an impossible third shot so took 6 (ding) on a high index par 4.

On a plus note though, my R11s fairway is going bolt straight and very long (two measured 284 and 296, rest were 250+ on varying slopes and gradients) at this rate the driver will be relegated to par 5s only. I think a 5 wood might also be snapped up at some point. I dont think I have ever felt as confident pulling a club out of the bag on any tee box. If anyone is thinking about getting a new fairway, you could do a lot worse than giving one of these a chance.

See my 'Disenchantment' thread... my putting has gone AWOL and the first qualifier is on Saturday.

I feel your pain dude, but it's good to hear that your long game is there :)

Tell me about it, played well on Saturday off scratch and was only just beaten by my mate (who's norm of 3)

At Blairgowrie yesterday Played the first 7 holes well, then shermans with pretty much every iron shot, apart from a couple of chips.:(

If it's just the half shots you're s******g you may be getting your hands a touch too close to your thighs at address. Step back from the ball a little so you have more room to swing through the shot. You should be looking at 4-6 in between your knees and the bottom of the grip.
Also, check you're addressing the ball out of the centre of the club and not a little towards the heal.

Oh Man.........!!...........Just Reading ''that word'' sends shivers..........
Its terrible playing with someone and they catch a bout of Shermans, u really feel for them
Hope they dont last long Guys...............

The loudest sound on the golf course is the deafening silence that follows an unmentionable.

I think I'd be chilled about them as hey ho I can fat it, thin it, top it, toe it and s**nk it so what's the difference except David has fought them for years and it has really held him back. Plus of course they usually end up somewhere off the course!

I thought I addressed it in the centre but on video yesterday I was amazed how near the heel it actually was.

I had one yesterday. Only a half swing from about 70yds from a nice fluffy lie and it went about 45° right, followed by feelings of total bemusement. No idea why, and not another one the rest of the round. It's the first time I recall having done it on a course other than in a bunker.

I feel for you, and hope they go as quickly as they appeared.

I wasted the Winter trying out a new putter. No idea why I bought one, had a bit of a Mizuno whore moment. Never really clicked and went back to my old putter at the weekend. So much better and sank some belters yesterday (3rd in the new members comp) so confident on that front. Driver is going well, hybrids are great, short game no worse than normal but long and mid irons gone to pot. Hitting fats, thins, hooks, slices the lot. All confidence gone with my Cleveland irons and it may be time to recall the Cobras.

have suffered from shanks for 10 years and like you normally at start of the season but have now cured them. for me i try to keep club face square to target for abit longer at start of take away and not fan club open also i have a 3 knuckles top hand grip. And to make sure i dont take the club out to in.on my practice swing i place my right foot behind my left foot which encourages a more rounded swing. then take my normal stance and bang the ball goes straight down the middle. works for me shank free now for 6 months and i dont miss them

I feel your pain, i posted earlier about my first counter yesterday, i had a conservative effort that there were 9 shanks in my round, it was probably closer to double that but i didnt want to be too down about it.

I suffer from them periodically through the season and it is a real low point and i will play superbly well for about 6 weeks and then back to the shhhh....and then it all starts again, i also put theright foot behind the left and today i tried the towel under the left armpit to stay connected and seems to be working.

i shot 102 of h/c of 18 (thirteen over) and im fairly certain every one of those thirteen extra shots where a shhh....

Ill get it sorted (always do for a bit!!)
The divots are awesome looking, they look like I have stuck a knife into the ground and ripped a 6 inch tear, less than an inch wide.Crazy!
Cheers Bob, will be practicing this week.
