IT gestapo at it again

once more the spoilers have been playing with our System at work, Tuesday I could get onto the Forum no problem, today completely blocked.

they've done it before and it's been restored - this one looks a bit terminal

For us Facebook, Twitter and the like are blocked but not GM.

What reason do they give or do you work for Today's Golfer!!!

they never give reason, and don't specifically target GM. they block 'types' of site, forgetting that half the time they also block sites that we genuinely need for our job.

for example they block specific words, can you imagine how many sites we (an aerospace company) lost access to when some dolt added 'screw' to the list.

getting access to the forum at work maintains my sanity (shut up bob!), so in my book is an 'essential'

Smart phone may be the way to go for me as though sites like GM etc.. aren't blocked understand that our levels of internet use are heavily monitored with high user lists then being regularly circulated at a senior level - as you say gestapo!

Forum viewing will never get you noticed as a high bandwidth user, trust me. I have access to the tools that monitor such things and unless you can get away with torrenting or rapidshare at work then most internet usage will be masked by legitimate heavy users.

It helps when your actually the IT gestapo cos it means I can look at what I want when I want, but stop everyone else

I have a free LogMeIn account, and use that to view the forums (and whatever else) on my laptop at home whilst at work.

As long as the LogMeIn site isn't blocked, you can look at whatever you want.

Also, if you get interrupted and can't get back on before you leave it's still there waiting where you'd got to when you get home. Plus you have all your favourites, history, programs etc.

I get emails offering penis enlargement, and emails offering viagra pretty much every day. If the firewall isn't picking up the words penis and viagra, what is it searching for?

Erm, they're probably from your Wife, that's why the Firewall let's them through.....

We are 'advised' to only browse the web before 9am or during our one hour lunch break.
Our office firewall however mostly blocks this site between 5pm and 9am and between 12 and 2pm. The rest of the time it isn't blocked!
