Is your range busy?

That bloke has a nice swing.

Our range was fairly busy last night. I was total pony and topped, thinned shanked my way through a bucket of balls. I can't get this hip thing through my head.

Our range is always busy especialy in the evening,I went about 2pm yesterday and it was really busy,I think mainly because Ping were doing a fitting session, you can get aload of free advice from the pro's who are always helpful,

incidently I really love the guys swing, hoping my swing gets nearer to his in the future..

theres always bays in hedge end free but they are £7 for 100 balls

Yeh, I used to go there infrequently and it was never busy. The balls and the bays are now high quality BUT the price puts me off.

Now a member and the Chandlers ford golf academy, balls are not as good, the bays point at a weird angle but the staff are very friendly and the prices are great! Those last two more than make up for the first two.

It is also closer and I can make it sort-of on my way home instead.

I do not know if others agree but staff friendliness is high on my priority list when going to a range. Generally it leads to discounts for me and repeat service for them.

I've been to Chandlers Ford, it's a weird set up. Like swinging a club in a garden shed. The shop seemed pretty well stocked though and they did a cracking bacon sandwich.

I've been to hedge end also. I'm not a fan, you can't see the end of the range on the bottom deck. which is obviously a problem when you monster the ball like me

They did have a really fit ginger girl working there a few years ago though!! she would be an incentive to re-visit!!

Never saw her, I only really went about 5 times a year with work mates as it was on the way home for them. It used to have awful mats and terrible balls but it had a makeover a few months back and is now a quality venue, just not anywhere close to affordable!

I try and get down between 1-4pm at my local one, as it's £3.50 instead of a fiver for 100. There are never more than 5 there. I do, however like to go down when it's dark, as the floodlights light the ball up like a tracer round so you can really see that power hook in full force.

I can't use the upper bays at Hedge End, I stop my follow through as I feel like I'm going to fall off. :(
The lower bays are ok but anything past a 7 iron and you can't see where it finishes. Not seen the fit ginger girl. Everytime I go it's the same guy behind the till, it's like he never has any time off!

I've been to Chandlers a few times, you can see the ball finish but agree the bays feel very odd. Southampton lacks a decent driving range, they all have their plus points but also have their bad points too.

I am going to be a regular now, two nights a week is the plan. Trying to get the game in order without shelling out hundreds of pounds on range balls. Its practically on my doorstep in my new place and I can get to it within 15 minutes from work if I leave before 4.40

I want to get this old swing back!

Glad to see you back mate, you'll definetly get it back just keep at it, I left mine at the course end of Jan now can't find it.. Oh well practice practice!!

The range I am going to start going to is fairly busy between 6 and close in the evenings. Its dirt cheap, less than half the price of the higher quality range further down the M27. It is quiet before 6 as the rush hour traffic makes getting to it a nightmare!

It does however ave a strange setup where the bays all poing about 15 degrees to the left so its very hard to feel how you are lined up as the bays are very narrow and high sided. You feel you are just hitting at the left hand side fence rather than the end. I guess it was built with the weekend slicer in mind.

Thankfully after not having swung a club only a few times this year (one prior range trip) I happily made use of all the space to the right hand side :D

Welcome back SB - give me a shout if you are back home anytime

The local range fills up Friday night before a decent weekend - other than that its fairly steady throughput.

However when the Masters is on it will be chocka block as always!!

Went to the range lastnight and as usual was the only one there interested in playing golf. I stood at one end hopelessly trying to master that perfect strike on a consistent basis (as we all do). At the other end of the range were three younger guys bashing balls all over the place, thumping the roof, bouncing off the steel uprights, clubs flying unto the range, shouting and roaring. Needless to say I felt like going down and rapping a 4-iron around their necks (a 4-iron as I never use it and I wouldnt waste a good club on the wee fu***rs). I better go now before i get into a rant

seen that a few times, Happy gilmore driving = broken shaft when done at a range!

I use Hedge End too although have to say, I use it less & less now for the cost reason ScienceBoy mentioned. I also prefer to hit off grass when I get the chance so tend to use the practice facilities at Hockley. I just use Hedge End when I finish a morning shift at work near by.
