Is the Fed-Ex Cup unimportant?

Strange that Furyk won the fed-Ex Cup and $11,350,000 and no one posted a thread about it. Is the Fed-Ex Cup not important or is it maybe seen just as an American thing?
No talk about how well Donald did or Casey not quite making it.... nada, zilch, zip

Is it that much of a waste of time? ...or did I simply miss the thread?

I like the Fed ex, as it's a chance to see some top players, who are on form, playing for a lot of money, on a decent track. That said, I'm not a big fan of Furyk, as his swing is way too much like mine. It's like watching a porn film with the wife in it. Just wrong.

You didn't miss it.

It did seem to be a bit low key.
I think most of us view it as just another USPGA Tournament that has a mahoosive prize at the end. Although Furyk, Donald and Casey were in contention, other bigger names like Mickleson and of course Tiger were not - Tiger didn't even qualify. Like him or not, when Tiger's playing the world takes notice, when he doesn't it would seem not many care.

Also I see the Fed-Ex and the Race to Dubai as a bit vulgar, with the enormous rewards on offer. These Guys are already multi-multi millionaires and yet the Sponsors still throw more at them.
Donald and Casey cemented their places in the top 10 with good finishes even though Casey threw it away a bit and was lucky with a free drop late on. Nick Watney's charge was epic and if the lightning had stayed away, a really low score was in the offing.

It also feels like an end of season jolly. All the players had secured their cards weeks ago and had nothing to play for except money - Martin Laird picked up $120k for coming last in the Tour Championship, Lee Janzen coming 150th overall and still going home with $32k.

I really enjoyedd watching it. The way they tweaked the points this year meant that up until the very last putt it could have gone either way. Even Casey could have had the money if he'd got a couple of putts on the last few holes and came solo 2nd. As for Furyk, well done! Imagine that 2 footer on the 18th for $11.35m, talk about pressure.

It's almost a shame that Furyk holed it, as I think an £11m playoff with Donald would have been great watching!

The whole thing is money led. Low crowds on the last day of the Tour Championship tell their own story. Massively biased points for winning certain tournaments made it a joke as well.

Low crowds could also have been due to the massive thunderstorm earlier in the day which halted play for a while. And I think the playoffs should have higher points than most tournaments. Maybe not quite as high as they were, but they are still tweaking the points system.

As for it being money led, of course it is. So is the race to Dubai, just to a lesser extent.

I think that the Ryder Cup has stolen all the attention especially as it starts (pomp & ceremony) the following day.

The amount of cash involved turns me off it somewhat. Completely over the top and vulgar. Casey's attitude to it all was appalling.

I thought it was a superb spectacle and was more exciting to watch than any of the majors this year.

I also think people think that the rewards are 'vulgar' because they are not involved in it.

At least he didn't do a Kevin Na and take his driver to one of the tees. I hope he gets heavily fined for his behaviour, about the amount he won.

I watched some of it but couldn't get really involved despite Casey and Donald going well. It's all been said really - confusing points system, too much money, contrived end of season bash, overshadowed by looking forward to RC. Course looked good though.

I think it was a good spectacle ,good to see these guys playing in tough conditions for a change instead of a stroll in the sunshine.

The PGA Tour looked at there Tour a few years ago and decided that a change was needed alot of the top players would cut there schedules after the last Major, they didnt want that to happen also the TV rating would drop as its the start of the Football and Basketball seasons so they revamped it.

Ok so the money is huge so what ,thats what drives sportsmen nowadays ,you only get the best competing if the pot is huge. The British players did well this year a pity Martin Laird missed that putt on the last in the first event oe he could have been in the mix.

Fedex cup is a joke, it over shadows the actual events that are being played, typical Americans nothing is ever exciting enough, they have to keep messing with things.

At the end of the day (oops, footballer's phrase), let's face it, golf on the telly is only exciting when it's close, when more than 1 guy can win on the last.

The Open was a bore cos' Oosthuisen strolled it & because we probably don't have a particular soft spot for him. The USPGA was better because it went to a play off and we probably had a Europe/USA thing going on.

It doesn't matter how much money they play for (nil at the Ryder Cup) it's all about how the result is achieved. We want excitement and money just cannot produce that on it's own. So, how much FedEx throws at these guys is of no consequence to us.

a whole year where the only golf I've seen on the box was a bit of the Masters and The Open (useless BBC, stuff all use Virgin!) so I haven't followed any of it, and with the RC only on Sky I'm even more disenchanted.

I like the concept of these play-offs (Fed Ex and Race to Dubai) but the format needs looking at a bit more especially the Fed Ex. I like the idea of a four comp race to whittle the field down but it would be much more exciting if once you got into the first event the scores were all reset and so you got points based on how you did over the mini tour. It would bring so many more people into the mix on the last round of Tour Champs which is surely the point
