If I join a club that's subs run april-april and I join in july. I wouldn't pay the full years subs, but 9 months worth of subs.

Might sound simple but the course I'm looking to join confused me tonight in the membership interview and I didn't want to appear to be a plank infront of members.

Sadly golf clubs don't use the same methods for bringing in new members. Some seem to think it is all right to charge someone for the full year when half of the golf season is over. It's okay saying you have 9 months still to go on your subs but 6 of those months are during winter.

I would say as long as you are getting plenty of daylight and sunshine then it is okay to ask you to pay full fee's, but hey it's Britain and you are not going to get many mid week rounds from October so I would like to think you would be getting some sort of discount. After all you haven't used the facilities for 3 months why should you have to pay for it.

I certainly wouldn't be entertaining a full years subscription in July!

At our club subs are paid over 10 months so you get 2 months "free" nov/dec, so they divide the full subs into 10 monthly payments then charge you however many months are left.

My subs are just shy of £900 so i pay £90 pm instead of £75pm

Don't know if you've already taken the plunge but a word of warning re Normanton golf club.
It gets VERY wet in winter and frequently closes. Quite a few have jumped ship and joined a few other courses in the area (mine included)over the last few years cos they only get 8 or 9 months golf a year.
