Is it wrong to pretend you are someone else when you're over 30?

I pretended to be Tiger Woods for about six months last year. Or at least that is what my solicitor said to my wife's during the hearings......

That aside, yes it is fine to pretend to be someone else when you are practicing although I would not recommend doing it at the driving range!

When I was a kid messing about I used to pretend to Olazabal. Came from watching him hit irons at the Open one year and the sound they made.

Never did manage to replicate it......:(

I was told that I looked like Tom Watson on the tee by a certain Stack and Tilt merchant. Unfortunately it was not the swing but the flat cap.:(

May be it helps with rhythm. If you have a Particular swing in mind, then if you pretend to be that player, and focus on their rhythm, may be a bit will rub off?

If it's forumers we are emulating I want to be Snelly. Plays pretty much off scratch with a set of rusty old clubs, hits the ball a mile (not literally ;) ), has a wit more arid than the Sahara and has a 2012 golfing itinerary that reads like a GM Top 100 Courses pull out!

I pretend to be a decent golfer. As a junior I did pretend to be Seve but with a zillionth of his talent. The good thing was I'd take shots on, especially around the green with no fear and ironically it would make me play that way with more conventional shots and I found I hit them better. If I could play today with that innocent freedom of my 14 year old self then I'd be onto a winner. Sadly I've way too many bad memories and golf baggage to cart round these days

and he's a damn fine chap to boot......

I see not many oldies have come on the thread to admit like me that Jack Nicklaus was the player I was trying to be in my youth, due to a lack of golf education I probably didn’t even know who Sam Snead was at the time but that might have been a better swing to copy.
Late night viewings of the Masters on very wobbly pictures with garish colourings because of the early American TV systems come to mind.

Back in the day whenever I got into trouble on the course my first thought was " how would Seve get out of this ? ".
Occasionally it even worked, and it felt great.
Now I'm a lot older I don't bother. I've probably accepted my limitations. :o
