Iron covers? I have been thinking about them, but feel I will look a plonka (no comments please :p) on the course, Does anyone use these things? Do they work? How many rounds do you think they would last before you lost one?

Well i think they look shocking but if you have forged irons then i see why you may need them.

Ps you pay all the money for the nice looking irons only to cover them seems wrong just my thoughts if there Donnay irons get covers !!!.

Was thinking about them myself but then thought better of it.

1. Didn't want to look like a tw@at
2. Didn't want to add 1/2 an hour on a round putting em on and off and god forbid looking for one that i dropped or came off half way up the fairway.

I totally agree with you all, but they will keep a lot more value to your irons and... and... if you are a unlazy person and carry you bag then it stops the clunking sound, then again they do seem pretty gay (I did see some sweet Mizuno ones on fleabay yesterday but where going for £30  ) so, can we find someone on the forum to give us the pros for them?

All joking apart i play forged irons and they mark so easy so for the re-sale side of thing then yes go for them

Doesnt look like there are any except they hold an extra 30% in value, but saying that the amount you will have to pay for these things & if you lose one you have to then buy a whole new set seems a little ironic.

I had a set of iron covers on an old set of TP11's. My first real golf clubs, beautiful mizuno blades all shiney and new.

I purchased iron covers to keep them good!

Not only were they a pain in the ass they also scratched the chrome to fcuk with the grit that got into the covers then pulling them on and off made a horrible mess of the back of my irons. They were suitabley binned about 2 weeks later!

Might not have the same effect on cast irons!

I used a set when my irons were new (forged blades - beautiful clubs). However, I soon lost a couple. Bought a better set, tied them together in bunches of three, so they don't get lost. Used them for a while, but then the resale value of my clubs took a pounding from stone chips on the sole, so I stopped using them.

In all, a bit of a faff really, especially in the rain.

I will use them in Florida though. Nothing mangles your irons like putting your bag on a buggy. They just rattle together for 4 hours, like putting them in a blender.

You can get ones which zip up, and protect the shaft too. These are heavy to carry, and are doubly gay.

i have a cheap set from donnay, only cost 4 quid and they are plain black. On and off as fast as club goes in and out of bag. Stops ya clubs marking and doesnt make ya sound like a gypsey cart when ya carrying ya bag. Must admit they come off if i am using a trolley but other than that i think there ok. Alot of ppl at our range use them.

Oh well, that leaves me as the solitary arse in favour of them then! I use them primarily to protect the heads in transit (mostly) and on the course (less so). Also, to protect the graphite shafts of my woods from the iron head clanging around in the bag and nicking them.

Another advantage is in the rain, they tend to absorb the worst and lessen the moisture hitting the grip.

I have ones that are fabric and cover the neck and hosel as well as the head. They even have a zip. I think this makes me the gayest golfer in here (according to views expressed!) but it really is absolutely no time wasted as I have the amazing ability to put the head cover back on AND zip it up WHILST walking at the same time!

So Parmo, get them if you like! Mine cost about £4 from Hong Kong via ebay and as they are zipped, I haven't lost one.

Toon.. I might just do it, but I can not get over the picture of you on the course with your zipper iron covers, chasing them down the 6th and once you stop to pick the lost one up it blows off in front of the 4 ball behind.
