Is it a little weird to use...

I must say at this point that when I bought them dodgy Cleveland wedges the other month I did get some free with that perchase, I should have realised then, these are the things...

I might give them ago or get something a little more classy (if such a thing exists for iron covers) like the castle bay ones.

My clubs are always in the boot in a pencil bag with headcovers on, keeps them protected when I'm driving about.

Can never be bothered to take them off when I play, don't use a trolley so don't fancy my clubs banging and rattling all the way round the course. Not bothered about resale value but I would like to keep my clubs as shiny and new as I possibly can (got them at christmas)because let's face it we buy shiny new things because we like new gear, what I find wierd is people that think personality can be replaced with an Elmer Fudd driver headcover!

Come the revolution anyone who uses novelty headcovers will be scratched forever.

Let me say why I am against them:

Bag chattter from forged irons is a sound to behold, not muffle.

Depreciation from bag chatter is minute.

They are footery and time consuming.

If you loose one, you are looking at a new set.

BUT THE MAIN REASON IS: I HAD A SET ON MY TAYLORMADE TP COMBO'S AND WHEN I WENT TO GET THEM SINCE THE LAST GAME THE MOISTURE TRAPPED IN THE HEADCOVER HAD VIOLATED MY GORGEOUS IRONS AND ....

WELL ....

THEY WERE ....

:( :( :(

RUSTY.

*Andy breaks his wee heart at the thought of the irons all contaminated*

Tony, I was in bits when I seen them. I had to get shot of them and buy new shiny ones. I think it was because of the rubbery material used in them that didn't let the air in to them to let them dry out.

the chap at the range tried to sell me a pair for 20quid saying they should be 30, They let ya clubs breath and the cheap ones make them sweat. I was like :D

Clubs, Sweat? he havin me on!

Those are the nasty boys I use Parmo! Like I say for me, they do a job and I'll take the ribbin'...

...not that anyone's ever said anything to my face about them yet... ;)

I've had both types given as Christmas presents. The Castle Bay type (a heavy rubber type material) were originally all tied together and were imo a pain to use and added unnecessary extra weight. The other type, fabric with zip, protect the head and first couple of inches of the shaft are far superior.

To me, the most important time to use them is, as others have commented, in transit - particularly when flying. Have you seen what happens to flight bags? I've had 2 bags destroyed in transit through (very) clumsy handling and I've seen one fall of the baggage transit vehicle. The clubs need all the protection they can get.

I'll usually use them on the odd occasion that I use a buggy, often use them if using a carry bag on an electric trolly, and sometimes use them when carrying. I find that the chinking of clubs when people are walking is sometimes a little annoying. I'm sure that the sound of forged irons chinking is more acceptable but none of my usual circle of playing partners use them so I can't pass judgement on that.

Can't be doing with iron covers....in fact I avoid covers as much as possible. I tend to put my driver in between the 3 and 5 wood and only have the one headcover! My new putter has a cover though, which for the time being I'm using.
