Just been looking at Phil Mickleson's results for the past year.
24 events, 6 Top 10's, 1 win (Masters), 1 win from 4 matches at the RC.

Is he starting that long slide down the rankings from now on. After all he's now down to 6th.
I've got a feeling he's not going to stalking the leaderboards much. He's my tip to do a Sergio - apart from ripping a bunker to shreds....

Maybe things have got too much for him. His wife's and mother in law's cancer battles, his arthritis and his battle with the big stick might have left him mentally exhausted.

I wouldn't blame him if that's what the issue is.

I really hope it isn't the start of the slide, he borders on genius with a wedge and seems like a nice guy.

I have heard his arthritis is a lot worse than is publicly known. If the guy is struggling, he is still doing better than the rest of could with full health!

Btw, 6 top tens and a major! The guy should give up now! Some years you do really well without winning a thing, others you win but still can't get to the top.

Not saying he's had a bad year as such but it wasn't up his normal standards.
Maybe the arthritis is worse than he wants known.

Given everything that's been going on in his life, I think he's done quite well. I'm sure he'll do well I'm the Masters this year...

I agree. Given all the cancer problems in the family and his own fragile health he's done pretty well to stay at 6th. I think he'll start to cut down on the touring now as he certainly doesn't need to be away for 4-5 weeks at a stretch. If the arthritis is as bad as everyone seems to think then I can't really see him wanting to push his body through the pain except maybe at the real big events

I think that everyone else has caught up and played some really good golf. McDowell, Kaymer and Westwood to name three.
Saying that, I think many people would fall apart trying to cope with what he and his family are going through.
I'd like to see him in a couple of times this year.

When I first read the OP was going to say it's just his putting that's letting him down. I didn't know about his own health problems and can only say that he hides it very well, in other words I've never noticed him looking in pain.

Really enjoy watching Phil Mickelson and apart from his obvious frustration with putting he never seems to get down and always plays with a smile. And of course his undoubted talents are a joy to watch.

With his wives health along with his own, is it any wonder that he can even turn up and continue the standard of play that he's used to?

Golfmmad.

Phew, for a minute I thought the "Chubby One" was referring to me, but then I realised that I cant possibly slide any further.

Followed Lefty on a few holes at the Ryder Cup and whilst he didnt play great, he was quite interactive with the crowd and was always smiling, unlike TW

Personally I hope he refinds his form, because he is a great sportsman and a decent bloke, and I wish him and his family all the best

On the slide or not, to a large extent, who cares? Big Phil is one of the nicest guys in the game. He always has time for the press and fans, notwithstanding his personal issues over the last few years.

In addition to the above, can anybody think of a golfer they'd rather watch? Particularly around the greens??

Great player to watch no matter how he's playing and seems like a good guy, always good with the crowds and never says anything bad about anyone.

Was it the Presidents Cup when he hit a shot out of a ditch, hooked it about 80 yards from near 200 yards out, onto the green? Watching him take shots on is amazing.

If he is, he's currently doing a very good job of proving otherwise. He was talking the other day about how good it was to have Amy walking with him and looking so healthy which might explain his upturn in form

Yeah I noticed that too!!

Tell you what..
If i say that Westwood, Casey, Rose and Donald are all on the slide then maybe they'll win Majors this year....
