Is a hc 20 lady technically better than a hc 20 man?

Consider why Men have a maximum handicap of 28 and Ladies have a maximum of 36. When you also consider that Ladies play off red tees in all competitions then this suggests that Ladies in general find golf more difficult than Men.

To answer the OP's question I would say that like for like then Men are generally better at the game due to their physical strength.

All depends on the person I would say, a teenage girl at our club is off plus 4 & regularly destroys the mens county team off the same tees & similar handicaps.

You seemed to contradict yourself

i would have to say no aswell.most if not all courses have seperate tee's for the ladies which have a higher par and the yardages are much shorter.

so imho a handicap is a handicap,it reflects the persons ability so if they are both off 20 then to me they are evens stevens.

Not sure you can directly compare the too but I hate getting drawn against women in our annual mixed knockout. Played in the summer when it runs and runs even if they are only a couple of shots higher, the fact that on many holes they are so far forward it does make them tough to beat. I've no feelings either way and to be honest a good steady female mid-handicapper is a godsend in team events

One thing I have found in another sport (cricket) that I coach is that woman that succeed tend to be technically correct more than the men because they lack power and rely more on timing and being "correct" .

Obviously this is a geralisation but woman cricketers tend to be better to watch technically

IMO

I agree. We have the county U16 ladies at our place quite often. Not big but very athletic and hit it huge distances with very little effort. Its true up to the pro ranks too. Some of these Asian golfers are tiny in terms of height and build but hit it miles with brilliant technique and timing. Lessons to be learned for a lot of us I think

I think it is a very good question. But I would have to say there is a major difference between good lady golfers and good male golfers. When LPGA players have tried having a go at PGA events it has perfectly highlighted the difference. The LPGA player has the same technical abilities as the PGA player but just does not have the power to get the distance. I remember watching Sorenstam playing in one. Taking into account she has previously shot in the 60's on this course she struggled to make par when it was set up at the mens distances. So I would say no a lady golfers handicap is not equivalent to a mens handicap unless she can play to it from the white tees.

I think one of the most telling comments Annika Sorenstam made was about the set up, she made the point that the Thursdays pins in the mens comp were tougher than most of the ladies Sunday events.

One area of difference between the mens and womens game is the short game. She also alluded to this when making comments after she had the opportunity to practice with Tiger.

It's impossible to compare as the ladies play a shorter course. I played against a 20 handicap lady member of our club earlier in the year and I can tell you now that she wouldn't be off 20 if she played off the white tees. Equally I play with men who play off mid twenty h'caps who would be closer to twenty off the reds.

So I would say a 20 h'cap off the whites is better than a 20 h'cap off the reds but until they are actually playing ghe same course, who can be sure

Before I played golf but husband did he always preferred to watch Ladies Tour golf on the TV as he felt there was much to learn from their technique and timing as what they lacked in power they made up for in finesse/technique.

Or that's the reason he gave for watching them !!
