I think this is where apple slept in, they saw the likes of the kindle, nexus etc and their popularity and came to the party late. 7 inch tablets are a little more transportable than the (slightly) bulkier 10" version I suppose.
Look at samsung sure, they have exactly how many current android devices out there? too many I think, the likes of the galaxy ace is a bit of a waste, too small to do anything useful on other than call and text on, some people only want that though.

7.9in to 9.7in so only 1.8in of a difference. I thought it would be like half way between an iPhone/iPod and a normal iPad.[/QUOTE]

The only negative thing for me is the lack of flashplayer on iOS devices.

That is a big sales boost for Android users that I know. But I think its going to end up being 1 or the other. Once you start spending to 1 company you are starting to get tied in with them, if you change you need to buy everything all over again.

I guess you're right. Having the iPhone 5 if I wanted bigger I'd prefer 10in to 7 or 8 tbh. But in all honesty I've hardly looked at the kids iPads bar when setting them up and doing a few updates and app purchases.

Flash is disappearing though, many sites going html5 (I think)

Part of the sell to my wife is that I can get apps to help my little girl with numbers, letters, colours and so on. I have seen other young ones who are advanced using them.

My requirements for a device are:

Web
Tetris
Pro Pool 2012
Apps for my girl
And down the list photos and music, I have an iPhone for that.

This being the case, does android have the selection of apps I want and am going to want in the future?

The forgotten bargain of this party is the Blackberry Playbook - 64gb now £125 in PC World. As far as I can tell it does the same as all the others. I have one and bought the wife one. It is great for watching recorded movies/tv, browsing the web etc - and, although I don't use the apps much, there are thousands of them - in fact I think they now access all the Android ones - I have several ones that my little girl (6) loves playing for maths and English etc. If you have a Blackberry phone it also tethers up a piece of cake and you have 3G on the playbook on the go

You cant actually access the Android apps directly on the playbook (ie via the Google play store) but many of the popular ones can now be sideloaded

I dont think google will ever let non android devices access its play market for apps.
The blackberry is a little like a poor cousin from upstate who can do some of what its relatives can do but not just as well and factor in less app support and expensive apps, I think RIM are abandoning the playbook (certainly the 16gb version, its dead and gone as far as RIM are concerned) just like HP did hence the low pricing.
The 32 and 64gb models are a good bit more expensive.

Everytime I more or less make my mind up what to spend my hard earnt pences on a thread like this pops and I again begin to doubt if I am making the right choice...

Don't really fully understand all the techspeak... Had got it down to a choice of either the Nexus or the Kindle having dismissed the Apple option on cost... Was going to splash the cash on a Kindle HD but I've now gone back to not being quite so sure :(...
