In whs, does a hcp index ever become invalid?
If someone doesn’t have any scores recorded for over 5 years, is it still valid?

It should be if the club still look after it. It won't be valid for club comps as it will have lapsed and in my clubs case you need 6 qualifying cards in a rolling year to enter the board events and 3 valid cards for ordinary events like stablefordsIn whs, does a hcp index ever become invalid?

My club doesn’t have rules about who can and who can’t enter comps. It should be if the club still look after it. Briught in as we had a lot of members coming in and getting their handicaps and playing a comp and winning with ease, then coming back a few months later after a minimal cut and doing the same. You can argue that the system will catch up but the consensus from the powers that be is to put three competition cards in before you can be in the comp. You can play the comp and the card will card will count to the rolling three but if you haven't three in you can't winMy club doesn’t have rules about who can and who can’t enter comps.
It seems that many clubs have introduced a policy which requires a minimum of comp scores to be able to win a major (or even any) comp.Briught in as we had a lot of members coming in and getting their handicaps and playing a comp and winning with ease, then coming back a few months later after a minimal cut and doing the same. Indeed. 6 qualifying cards to play in our board events and 3 cards for medals and stablefordsIt seems that many clubs have introduced a policy which requires a minimum of comp scores to be able to win a major (or even any) comp.
To play in or to win?Indeed. 6 qualifying cards to play in our board events and 3 cards for medals and stablefords
To win. You can play and the card counts towards the rolling number of qualifiers needed but players are told up front they are't eligible to win so it does save issues laterTo play or to win?
Do they still have to pay the competition entry fee even if they can't win?To win. You can play and the card counts towards the rolling number of qualifiers needed but players are told up front they are't eligible to win so it does save issues later
I don't actually know. As it is an automatic deduction of our members card I would guess yes as it would be done once you register to play but if you haven't got enough cards in to win I'd hope the club refunds it.Do they still have to pay the competition entry fee even if they can't win?
Not sure if it’s still the case but my old CDH number and handicap was archived due to more than 3 years of not competing just before the switch to WHS in 2020 I think?
I now need 54 holes with new Scottish golf number to be assigned new handicap
Clarifying questions - what is a "qualifying score"? Aren't all scores on a player's handicap record "qualified" to be there?
Thanks, follow-up questions - what are "qualifying comps" and who defines them as such? They are
Some clubs have entry and winner rules
For example - on all our monthly stablefords and medals you can enter and win if you have a valid HC - which can be just one score on there
But for board comps to win you have 4 scores from qualifying comps over the last rolling 12 months within your HC record
