I would like to hear from someone who has actually successfully claimed

I closed the gate after the horse bolted. I got insured, but only after I had a full set including bag and waterproofs stolen from my car. Read the small print; my clubs were not covered on house content insurance

Also for those who are insured, don’t just rely on the sales adverts you get with the golf mags; again check the small print. I heard a story at my club about a member who had his clubs stolen and the insurance refused to pay out saying he was negligent.

Also check the new for old small print, some only offer new for old if they are less than 3 years old. You only read that in the small print. Others do not cover clubs kept in detached garages, again only in the small print.

Warning!!! Read the flipping small print

Dont have golf insurance and dont intend to get it either. I would sooner rely on my golfing experience, good judgement, common sense and knowing my own abilities.

My clubs are covered by my home insurance and thats plenty for me.

In the light of the thread about the recent case I checked with our club sec and our membership fees include personal liability cover on the golf course. Gear is covered by my household insurance.

So does ours, and I think that anyone that pays a green fee is also covered. Clubs on household insurance, job done.

All you have done is give me a justified reason why i should change my clubs every three years.

" honest honey, i have to change them every three years or my insurance is invalid " - thank you very much ;)

I keep my clubs in my locker a lot of the time. I phoned my home insurer to check and because they were in a publicly accessable area they wouldn't cover me against theft so I got golf insurance and made sure I was specifically covered for theft from my locker (clubs or otherwise).

You are lucky you have decent size lockers. Ours are about a foot square and would need to break the clubs into small pieces to get them in.;) As I work from home,I need them to hand so I can have a sneaky swing in the garden.

Nice to know you can guarantee that you will never have an accident, wish we were all to know the future that well. Saying that if we did the lottery wouldn't exist.

I thinks it is a no brainer, get cover, have the security of if there is an incident you are covered, and nine times out of ten you get in excess of what you pay for your cover in free green fees at decent courses.

2 freinds, my father in law and I all get our insurance from same place, we all get the vouchers, so can use them together for a round or 3 through the year.

I've just brought insurance with golf care, the way I see it is if I wanted to save £600 a year why get car insurance.. I might not crash.... Why spend £40 on travel insurance for a week away in the sun.. I've never lost my luggage or been robbed or sick... Why get Pet insurance, my dogs might Not have an accident or maul next doors cat..

For £30 a year I'm covered just incase on the off chance I hurt someone or get my clubs stolen or god forbid I get a hole in one!

I think it will be compulsory soon..

.

I dont know the future and cant guarantee that I wont have an accident. However I am confident enough in my own abilities and experience on the golf course that I am 99.9% sure that I will never injure some badly enough to be sued for a huge amount.

Just in the same way I cant guarantee, but am 99.9% sure I will never be mauled by a tiger or hit by a meteorite. You dont see me rushing out to get Tiger or Meteorite Insurance?

Got mine last year also. Peace of mind in case I get my sticks stolen really - having had it happen once I am not about to let these go easilly but you never know. As with other insurances you are not covered in every circumstance but in the ones I need cover in I have it.

Not a bad deal really - Used a couple of the free round vouchers with someone paying so we halved the green fee - saved a few bob. Free gift was a shoe bag - saved a few bob also. Ended up costing me nothing if you take the gifts that I have used off the price.

I was thinking about covering my children with one of these policies but when i read the small print your clubs are not covered if they are stolen from outside your clubhouse.

Well said. Totally agree.

What utter tripe.

Car insurance -a legal requirement.

Travel insurance - I have at least one plane journey every month and go all over the world without travel insurance (skiing and dangerous places apart). It is an unecessary con for people that believe the marketing. You actually state that you have no need for it in your post! " I've never lost my luggage or been robbed or sick..."

Pet insurance - anyone who gets this for a pet dog or cat must be crackers. I have had dogs all my life and currently have 3. I am not going to get into the details but insuring them would be utterly pointless.

Specific golf insurance. See my rant on the other thread. You don't need it unless you are without common sense, really rubbish at golf, naive or daft.

I made American Golf throw in their insurance cover when I bought my R11 irons (on top of the £35 they already knocked off the).

My house hold policy also covers me for £1600 sports equipment (inc golf clubs) away from the home.
I do have legal cover for all kinds of legal disputes/claims with the exception of anything to do with Motorsport or motoring.

I will renew my specific golf insurance when the time comes.

Sorry but its a post like me that sort of hopes you hit a horror shot and injure somebody and it goes through the legal channels just so you can see where golf insurance would get you. I resent you insinuation that you are crap at golf if you have it. Maybe I am although I preferred to think of it as directionally challenged but I'd rather fork out £30 per year for the liability protection AND to cover my clubs against theft (we have had clubs go walkabouts from the locker room and a break in including lockers so wise to be prepared). Or maybe your right and I'm just thick and without common sense

You hope I injure someone? Charming!

First apologies if my previous post offends.

Let me clarify. I don't think anyone needs golf insurance. It's a con. Who on this forum in the tens (in fact probably hundreds) of thousands of combined hours of play has ever injured another player to the extent that they might sue for damages? No-one I bet. And if there is someone, or someone knows of a case, the next question is did the injured party sue? This is another major boost to the odds against needing specific golf insurance.

The odds are miniscule. You are shelling out for something you will never need. Home and motor insurance should cover the theft of clubs and your golf club will certainly have personal liability cover.

Well I'm now in the club house after a lesson today. When I arrived I was met by two ambulances in the middle of the car park...
I get onto the range and there is a young lad being attended to by 3 paramedics.
Turns out that he has been hit in the head and there is blood everywhere!

15 mins later there is already mutterings of lawsuits.

As for not having holiday insurance I can assure you that if you get in a pickle and need medical attention you are going massively regret not having cover. I was a holiday rep for two years and I have seen both sides of the fence and the size of the medical bills that go with it! In the Algarve, a trip in an ambulance to Hospital Particular and treatment for a twisted ankle will cost you €1500 plus.

I've also been waiting in arrivals at Faro when a family of 2 adults and 3 kids did not arrive - The reason? Well they were not allowed to board the plane as they did not have holiday insurance so they were refused boarding.
They never got their money back either, £4000 down the pan.

You may also want to google about the British guy who was recently awarded £400,000 in damages for loss of an eye. The golf club is liable for 30% and the individual who hit the ball is liable for the remainder. He is not insured and stands to lose everything.
I wonder if he thinks if the £30 is a bad investment...

My view is, is £30 worth taking the risk? No.

I also bet that it is only a matter of time before clubs start issuing disclaimers to sign and/or start loading the green fees with an insurance premium.

a no brainer no matter how good you think you are accidents happen and for the peice of mind it gives is pricless lets face it it is only the cost of a dozen mid-range balls.
