If you were Stephen Gallacher how would you feel?

bet he feels like the bloke who used to play for my previous clubs h/c team, never won a game all season but got picked week in week out, when i asked the captain why he kept picking him when better players were chomping at the bit to play he replied "because he owns the mini bus we use "lets face it he was chosen because he was Scottish and as no Scottish player had been good enough to get on the team it had to be done, form is temporary class lasts for ever, good job it didnt matter in the end,but how will he be remembered the bloke who never won a point.

Perhaps you could name the better players who should have been chosen before Gallacher?
Whilst bearing in mind he just failed to beat GMac for the automatic 9th place.

Bound to be some mixed feelings, but I think to much is made of individual records. Some days you could shoot -6 and lose, another day level can win.

No side has ever won every match in every session, so always a mix of results. Sometimes you come up against good play and have to take one for the team.

Poor attempt at landing a wee fishy if you ask me.

He was the in form European player that never qualified, narrowly missing out on automatic qualification.

Out of interest, who should have been picked instead?

i would have chosen Luke for his experience,it was a gamble that didnt work,it never caused any damage to the score but will he be remembered as the pick who never scored and was dropped after one game.i dont know the facts of hand but how many European point scoring comps did he play in over that of gmac who i think said he didnt mind because he would get a pick anyway.

If Howell hadn't produced his best Sunday performance of the season Stevie would have qualified under his own steam but quite possibly have still had the same results, would this thread and a few other posts bashing him exist then?

Out of form Luke Donald, quiet season Francesco or unproven Luiten? What other picks did Mcginley have?

Not sure why you think going with a more experienced player would have been better?

USA's captains picks, both of whom had played RC before didn't set the world on fire. Bjorn is an experienced player and only earned 1/2 a point. Jim Furyk loads of experience 1 point. Poulter loads of experience….

I would actually have been thinking that younger blood or guys with less experience on an upward curve is the way to go - look at Spieth, Reed, Fowler, Donaldson, Victor….

Genuine question, what have you got against carriage returns, paragraphs and full stops?

I think this is so important. If he had collapsed to a 7/6 defeat and thereby enabling USA to get a Red win on the boards early that could have changed the way things went. The fact that he battled well against a brilliant player - holding defeat at bay until there was a Blue win on the board - was important in it's own right.

Think this is a great point, he was hardly blown away by Phil who played well and took it down the 17th

Bjorn hardly set the team alight but done his job as part of the team.

no attempt to catch anything,i agree he had a run of form but was unproven in the big arena and was a gamble,my point is if taking a gamble is form the only yardstick, again i say when it came to the desicion to chose a 3rd pick being Scottish was in his favour and was stated when chosen by Mcginley

Gallacher was 10th pick, Poulter 11th and Westwood 12th.

Bit of a nasty post on a great day for European Golf.

I'll agree to disagree.

Pretty odd thread on a day that we win the Ryder Cup though. I would have expected most people to be raving about Rory being untouchable today, Gmacs amazing comeback, Rose having the determination to grind it out or Donaldson winning the crucial point as a rookie etc etc.

i was answering post, the team did well and showed how we play as a team unlike the yanks who seem to play as individuals in a team.

Yep. The second paragraph wasn't aimed at yourself, more of a general comment. Probably not how it reads though. :)

I know this is a team event but I think I would have very mixed emotions. Only playing 2 games and getting convincingly getting beat in both although the singles was closer. So not contributing to the points total but winning the trophy. It must be like being in the winning cup final squad but not getting on the pitch.

Imo he will be pleased to have been part of a winning team, though disappointed not to have won a point and not to have featured on the sat possibly reflect on how well the other rookies done for both teams,ps I thought walker and reed were brilliant for usa, so overall great experience for him and maybe in two years will be an even better player based on this wk

Inebriated.
Happy to have been part of a fantastic team performance.
Moderately happy with my performance, but grateful for the experience in that kind of arena.
Even more inebriated...

Why an odd thread. I was asking how people would feel and NOT how a Stephen Gallacher would be feeling. As I said in the OP I think I would have mixed feelings. It's amazing how people can change a tbread and go off at tangents
