If you could go back in time and tell yourself one tip / piece of advice when starting playing golf, what would it be? (Other than don't start playing golf...)

Keep a souvenir score card for every course you play.
I've played bloody hundreds of courses and would love to have kept a record of when and where but I ain't got a clue now.

Start with stack and tilt.
(Even if I then went away from it I'd have a solid understanding of the fundamentals).

Blimey! This is the first I've ever heard of this. A quick google has me startled! I must get down the range to try this!

I've recorded all my rounds on a simple excel spreadsheet (makes horrific reading)

thought it was a tad anal when I started it and that I wouldn't keep it up - but surprisingly I have.

I would have said to myself "Listen to the nice Lionel Platts and the nice Mickey Walker, they know what they're talking about!" and I would have also said "Don't worry, you WILL enjoy this game eventually, just give it twenty years or so...".

Ditto Jouk, although it would have been difficult, as it wasn't about.

As it wasn't around, I'll opt for stop looking for the flippin ball before you hit the flippin thing.

Hang on, I've been saying that since I started anyway.

Nothing really, at the end of the day i would probably be playing at the same level as what im playing at anyway . Ive never wanted to be a pro and still dont, the game to me is a hobby and thats it :D ;)

I didn't need to be told that, my dad shouted it at me everytime I (mis)hit the ball anyway.

Oh yeah it took me about ten years to actually listen to him...

Stop buying new clubs every time you have a few bad rounds, be happy with what you have and admit that is you playing the bad shots not the club

Could have saved a fortune.

Spend at least as much time practicing chipping and putting as I do with my irons and woods.

And I agree with GB72 on the clubs. That came a close second. Get a lesson, not a new driver. It's cheaper and stands far more chance fixing the problem.

I've never heard of the phrase 'stack and tilt', if I look it up will I be disappointed??
