To anyone who has played this great game for more than ten years (I've played more than 30!) if you had the chance, knowing what you know now, and you could go back to when you started playing golf, would you do anything differently?

1. Had some lessons straight away.
2. Married someone who has an interest in golf !
3. Bought a house with a smaller garage so my accumulation of stuff could be curtailed

I would like to give left handed golf a try. I play golf r/h I write left handed I kick a ball left footed but anything with a bat in hand I play r/h but as I broke my left wrist years ago I had to write right handed for 6 months so pretty good with both hands. Left handed golfers swings look so good and as I tend to get a bit laid off at top of my swing. l/h could cure that.

I would be on the tour, without doubt.

I would have retired now with 19 majors :D

Probably would have taken up squash 25 years earlier than I did. :p

Ooh er missus!
I'm nearly the same. Left handed, left footed, although you really don't want to see me kick a ball but I can play most sports with a bat right or left handed except golf which I play right handed only.

If I could go back then I would have given golf a proper go when I was 10 and first shown the game.

I'd have tried harder at getting into the game when my old man introduced me and my brother to it as kids. I thought it was naff and didn't show any interest after that 1 range session and ended up taking up the game 20 years later (3 years ago) aged 30 and struggle with this poxy game. Whereas my brother stuck at it after that and now plays off 1!

Well either that or at 30 when I eventually started i'd have decided to take up baseball instead

on the learning, starting etc nope, nothing - it's a handicap sport not my profession.

what I would have changed were the early years of playing in the same game with the same 3 people at the same time every Saturday - my enjoyment of the wider aspects of the game 'took off' when I started playing golf with people I'd never met before on a regular basis.

Tough question...

I've played the golf I wanted to play, i.e. knockabout amatuer club golf. But at 18yrs old, 37yrs ago, I turned down a 2yr sponsorship deal - I sometimes wonder but I don't regret the choice I made.

I would have started playing much earlier..... Only picked up a club 2 years ago aged 31.... I am miles behind others but well and truly hooked......

I played football, cricket and did a lot of fishing in my youth... So wasn't much time!!! I used to say the game ruined a good walk..... How very wrong.....

Practice chipping and putting more as essentially this is the main area that determines my score.
Now I don’t really have the time and prefer to get out on the course when I can rather than the practice green. This will change next season though!
