if you could give one tip to a new golfer

Make practice competitive, otherwise it'll get boring (especially important for kids)

There are so many, possibly it would be, take up an easier sport :). My game seriously improved when I started NOT to try and hit the ball hard. I new not to do it from day one, but it took me five months to actually put it into practice.

A brand new club has a honeymoon period of 1 - 2 rounds before it suddenly becomes just as unreliable as every other stick you have in your bag......

Golf is the hardest game you can play, so laugh at your bad shots and get an adrenalin buzz from your good shots.

I think that generally get the lessons is the response on here to a lot of threads but in reality this isn't always feasible or the answer.

In this case however you should get 2 or 3 lessons as a minimum. Otherwise you WILL be doing it wrong in one way or another which you will just have to fix further down the line. An introduction to the game by a pro at least gets you started properly and on the right foot.
