I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Nice after-work round, course was busy, but tempo was spot on, no waiting around, first time that's ever happened to me, so slightly impressed by that :sneaky:

The weather was cold and windy...very windy. A few shots literally stopped in the air, and whilst I am a championship-calibre slicer, I couldn't be anything but impressed when a straight high tee shot blew across the huge fairway. It wasn't a slice, but one of the best fake lookalike slices ever, thanks to the wind.

only used 3 wood, 5 wood and 3 hybrid off the tee, and my 3 wood is really doing well, even though I hit 33% fir, every tee shot was playable, so I am absolutely loving the G425 Max 3 wood and G400 SFT 5 wood.
Can anyone tell me if the G425 SFT driver is as solid as the G425 fairway metals? I had a G430 max, but couldn't hit it at all, nothing but huge slices (I went back to my stealth and hit everything fine, so the whole G430 thing was very confusing)

So while my tee shots were doing great, my iron play started to get a bit better too, which led to a lower score today, and my short game is still improving, plus my putting is on fire. No 3 putts today, 29 in total.

Shot a 94, which I think is the lowest score of the year thus far, and the first time everything was working together! Normally, one thing works well, and the other 3 things don't
If you're a slicer, you definitely want to look at the SFT drivers. I've had three of them now. They are second to none at straightening your ball flight out. I've gone to SFT in my woods as well, I've never tried anything else that I'm able to get on target as consistently as them with my little out-to-in swing.

The Max driver has the adjustable weight port but even in the draw position it's nowhere near as much as the SFT has. The G430 SFT actually has a moveable weight too, but it's 'draw' and 'draw+' which is like a superdraw setting. 😂 Aaaand that is the one I use. 😁

You're telling me everything I want to hear.

I'll be on the lookout for a g425 sft. I was so pumped when I got the G430 Max. I hit a couple of decent drives, but could hardly hit a drive 250 yards or straight most of the time, whereas my 3 wood G425 Max is a monster and was outdriving the G430 by 15-20 yards and most importantly, a slight fade or straight. I have a G400 SFT 5 wood, which is a 3 wood turned up to 17 and with a 5 wood shaft, and I hit that beautifully this evening too, which gave me the bug about that feeling and sound and flight to have that, but in a driver.

Some people didn't like the sound the 425 made - personally I don't particularly care about that sort of thing. My mate upgraded from the 425 to the 440 last year, but he has actually gone back to the 425 as he prefers it and drives better with it.

So you can’t hit the driver without slicing it?
You can’t chip for toffee
You often 3 putt
And you got no bottle

Have you considered tiddlywinks? 🤣🤣

Only pulling your leg mate, nice to hear your challenges and improvements and share the golf ride your on.

I remember when the 425 SFT came out and Ian Fraser from TXG in Canada tested it...
He said that the furthest right he could hit it was 30 yards left...

Not the case, thanks to Ping and their lovely clubs I'm currently averaging 68.6% fairways hit this year.

I’m loving that’s the only thing you disagreed with mate. 🤣
It was only a bit of leg pulling.
I wish I could get out and enjoy the anguish you’re going through at the moment.
Keep it up and keep us informed of your career.
Must be time for the knockouts to start soon and we can all hear of your latest defeat snatched from the jaws of victory. 👍

Yes, despite my horror stories of last year, where I swore I would not enter any matchplays again, I'm happy to report I'm now over that and have entered three of them for the upcoming season. 😂

Brilliant pleased to see the toys are back in the pram from the forums very own Bob Mac 🤣.
At least that’s 3 games already sorted for the season.

Just the 11 holes today as wanted to get a bit of practice before my first club medal in 7 years this weekend.

My god the course has changed in the 10days since I last played. They’ve really toughened it up brought the fairways in a good 10-15yards in some holes, grown the rough so we now have a distinct 1st cut and a 2nd cut that is penal. Even the greens have firmed up, it was a real different challenge today and if these winds keep up it’s going to be a tough round off the back tees. But it’s really good to see and looking forward to playing it Sunday.

As for today, I was indifferent just as many bad shots as there were good but fun was had and got asked to play in the Hampshire 7s next month at Old Thorns.

There was a famous clip of Hatton that did the rounds where he said "thank God I play Pings" after a poor strike found the green. Me and my mate have adopted it as our mantra. 😂
When I started playing 40 years ago their irons were some of the most fugly out there. I’ve never played them myself but some of the more modern blade types look good. I did have a G5 driver in my bag for a few years and it was probably one of the best drivers I’ve had. It was just a bit spinny so no good on windy days.

Never had any irons or wedges of theirs, but at this point I wonder if I'll ever again have a driver or wood in my bag that isn't Ping.

I have the 425 SFT, and I can hit it 30 yards right without any issue!
But then I bet Fraser didn't have a -12.9° path at times! 😲🤣

Titleist is one brand I've never owned a single club from.
It’s one the brands I’ve always thought to be massively overrated. I had the Starship
Driver and 3 wood years ago and they were good, I had the 962 irons and they were overrated. Every time I’ve tried their gear since it just feels a bit “meh”! Can stand Titleist balls either I’ve never liked them or how they feel. Just think they’re a brand that get a cult following and people
Play because they feel they should as after all it’s Titleist!
