I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

I don't think 38 inches is long enough for either of those things. You just grip them normally and have a bit of extra weight above your hands to counter-balance it. Could be wrong but I think that's the idea anyway.
I can see it being an arm lock, particularly as @Springveldt is not the tallest, we know each other. It would sound awkward to me, to have some of the putter sticking out in the way you describe but each to their own. Interesting to hear his reply.

It depends if he has one like this - I think if you wanted to armlock it it would need a different grip and lie angle. Definitely not long enough to broomhandle it, Adam Scott's is like 45 inches long.

I played yesterday at Farleigh in Surrey. I started with a double and a bogey, then shot level par for the remainder of the round, had 2 eagle putts which became birdies, I made 4 in total and could (read should) have had a couple more in all honesty.

It was the first time I've ever shot level par for 9 holes too. +3 gross, a differential of 5.5 and I'm now down to 9.0.

Played this morning...well, chased a ball around d a couple of fields...
Possibly the worst I've hit the ball in years...quite how I managed 29 points including a birdie escapes me..
Shocking off the tee in fact the who,e long game was awol....
Stupid game.....

Got out early this morning, managed to get the boys breakfast sorted and him in the bath. I stirred the wife into life with a sweet tea and she got him fully ready and drove him in .. I was on the tee at 8:15 with 4 old boys ahead. Went through them by the 4th to leave myself a clear course .. absolutely perfect. Shot a 79 managed to lose 6 shots in 2 holes, but the rest was okay, a bit ropey from the tee with a 5 wood ( normally I am okay) . I used a Lee Trevino reel about bunker set up and that saved me a lot of issues. Last few holes I was hitting nicely and my short game seems to have improved! So I am happy.
I went into the bar for Guinness 0% but no one was serving, I went into the pro shop and tried some putters but no one was selling … I saved £300 👍🤣

@Orikoru got it spot on, it's not long enough to arm lock or use broom handle style. It just feels a bit awkward as if I don't forward press a touch with it, the end will stab my fat belly. It just feels harder to keep my arms connected tight to my chest with it unless I have my head what feels like miles inside the ball.

I grip down a touch on it, probably have 4 or so inches sticking out behind my hands but the results were amazing for me. Had a lot of long putts due to pulling irons 20 yards left and the only time I didn't managed to get up and down was one were the ball hit something in the fringe and bounced about 9 inches in the air. All the others I lagged up to within 2 foot, pace control was excellent. Really promising so far but it's probably just the new putter effect. This time next month I'll be eyeing up a LAB fitting.

And I'm average height thank you very much. 😂

Something unusual around Saunton West today. The temperature in C and wind MPH must have been roughly the same!! About 30.
Rough is quite punishing too.

Nice to have @Crow playing as he is staying nearby. Fun game, only lost one ball ( several lucky finds) and nearly an ace at the last.

Back tomorrow for more punishment on the East course

Really enjoyed it @IanM despite being on the end of a good thumping.
I lost 2 or 3 balls and collected a sorry 23 points, but the swing improved as the round progressed, and I parred the index 1, which is always a small consolation. :)

Five over par at Royal Portrush. Sadly, it's only on Trackman virtual course. But it is increasingly ridiculous how well I'm striping it on the range, and even in practice rounds, only to play like a peak hacker in any competition. 🤦🏻

While you were doing that, 4 of us (RichA, BubbaP and A.N.Other) were hacking round Scraptoft where the lost ball count did reach an alarming amount.
I lost one on the 14th. So I've made a record in my diary.
Shame, as it was a foundling ProV on its 32nd hole with me and yesterday I had made 2 birdie 2s with it by then. I suppose I'd had my zero money's worth with it.
I don't think any of us were disappointed with the game as a whole. Such a nice day and great company. Thanks chaps.

Strokeplay comp yesterday. Card was wrecked by 2 8s, both the result of bad drives. Ended up with a net 73.

No idea what's going on with my driving at the moment, one hole I'll stripe it long and down the middle, next hole, it's an awful hook, and repeat ad nauseam. Driving me nuts. Can feel a lesson coming on.

Trackman has me as a +1 handicap after playing a few courses. Hitting off a mat and those auto putts are doing all the heavy lifting.

I don't find the putting enormously generous, it's basically a two putt if you hit the green (unless you're inside like 4 feet), and if you miss the green it rarely ever gives me an up-and-down, it's usually chip and two putts for bogey. Then again with your putting recently you're probably happy with those numbers. (sorry) ;) Yes, of course never having a bad lie helps.

Joking aside though, I do one of these virtual rounds once a week, and I'm usually about 10 over on average, so 5 over on last night's one does mean I was striking it pretty well. Or just choosing the right club to reach the green anyway. Plus, the shortest tee option was around 6400 when I normally have it nearer 6000. I was striking the fairway woods particularly well.

Last round I changed the putting to PGA Tour level so I think it must use some sort of PGA Tour make rate from distances. Before that it was just standard, think it was auto inside 6 feet maybe? I chip it pretty close most of the time when I miss the green on it anyway.

The biggest cheat code though is the lie you get when you hit it in the cabbage and it says like "70% power, 50% spin" as you just do a quick calculation in your head, add on the distance needed then hit that club from a mat.

I'm not sure how detailed it is at the place I go - I've tried setting my handicap to 0 to see if it gives me more putts, but it made no difference. And I did have one in the long rough yesterday (on the screen obviously), where I ripped a 7 wood nicely, but on the screen it only went about 85 yards and very low, so it did penalise me for being in the long rough on that occasion at least. But I'm not sure I have access to all the settings. (Note this is outdoors on the range, whereas I think you're playing indoor in a studio right?) I also don't have to chip anything inside of about 40 yards.

Yeah, I'm indoor in a studio. I can mess with all the settings before the round, sounds like yours is different. I can even putt if I want to, you can get a grid on the green Tiger Woods game style, move the aim left or right and then putt trying to judge the pace. Seems like a bit of a ball ache though and would add on massive time aiming each putt.

We really enjoyed Scraptoft. Terrific golf course and a nice, down to Earth, unpretentious club. Unlike my own club on the Herts-Essex border, not a single geezer in sight or sound.
It has made me yearn for my east midland roots.
