I played today and..(Rolling) -originally created by JohnnyDee

Did not continue my good run of form this morning.

All three of us out last night, each one of us said we wouldn’t get too pissed up. All three of us failed.

Never felt so bad swinging a club. Played a 4BBB and we witnessed some poor, bordering on farcical golf.

Never again!
We went to Cardiff to meet some old friends, the same thing happened - my golf is bad enough without a hangover.

Short par 3, forward pin, struck it really well, covered the pin all the way there. Found the pitch mark 2 foot past the pin, ball sat 6 inches short of the pin - it must have had a good look at it. Feeling like a proper golfer, leaned over to tap it in and ……missed!

Team game, - I bought the beers!

The last three weekends have been sorely disappointing golf from yours truly. It's been nice to get out but really, I've been fed up with it and not looking forward to going out again. It's been absolutely confidence-sapping - I've been feeling like, I've got no idea how I've ever got to a 12 cap and I'll be going rocketing back up soon.

The worst has been with my driver - I've not been able to get off the tee at all, taking blobs left right and centre. This then leads to no confidence with irons, wedges, anything, they all go in turn. Especially considering the winter ground conditions.

Well...

On my lunch break today I watched a video by Giles Gill on YouTube, a complete breakdown of driver, from setup, through backswing, all the way to release. I've known what my problems are, but my driving had gone from being able to hit a soft draw 240 in the air to these horrible spinny 180 yard slices, so I figured, hey, I've seen this guy's content, he speaks well, let's go right back to basics and start afresh; it can't get any worse.

While I've not been happy with my swing, I've also known that I'm doing a lot RIGHT, so I watched the video looking for that "missing piece". While watching, I typed notes up. There were a couple of bits that I made an extra note to try as a starting point.

I got to the range and I found that the act of taking notes had really stuck it in my brain, so much so I didn't need to actually refer to them. I got a couple of good swings away and in no time at all I was CRUSHING this thing, like, so much better than I ever have, with such subtle tweaks.

After that, I tried 3w with similar swing thoughts. Also better.

Then I picked up a 5 iron, and did the same again. Flushed. Checked carry on top tracer - 199 yards! Erm, what? My usual is about 170, must be a misread. Hit another. Bosh, 185, 190.

Started hitting through the bag, and no joke, every iron was flying about 15-20 yards further. With less effort! I could suddenly feel the club releasing and wasn't having to try and make it happen. I could feel so much speed where I hadn't before. Everything was flying higher and straighter than ever and it was such a simple movement change.

So in one evening I've gone from the brink of despair and thoughts of booking a lesson, to the happiest I've felt about my game in ages. Drove home the whole way with a massive smile on my face.

Now, before someone says it, I know this won't translate on to the course... just let me have this, for now, please...

Only downer was my dad phoned up and told me that he has had to have his dog put down 😢 The universe's way of balancing me out, I guess

Played our mid week competition and shot 5 over par 36 stableford points, in 38C.

Took out an old putter for a change and it felt good, so will keep it in the bag for the time being.

Share the video please 😂

My Mate had a day out, best score in a year 41 points off 13 handicap only to lose on count-back from a 29 handicapper.

in his last 20 scores
11 in the 20's
8 in the 30's
3 in the 40's

Playing the system beautifully.

Out with the Old Timer CVG this morning...he has a dodgy back right now so we didn't put cards in as we didn't know if or how long his back would last...
Started with a bogey on 10, nice birdie on 13, bogey on 14 and the rest were pars....1 over and 21 points....that'll do.
Bogeyed the 1st and the 8th ...otherwise all pars..
3 over 74, 40 points.....nods head slowly.... 😋 😎
Shame we didn't do a card but it wouldn't have made a difference as exactly the same score was dropping out of my 20.....

First game for a few weeks today, due to a combination of a bad back and some awful weather.

Was only going to play 9, but played better than I expected, culminating with hitting my tee shot on 9 to about 2 foot, for a tap in birdie. Decided to carry on since it was going well. Went off the boil on the back 9 as the backache kicked in, but managed 36 points, more than happy with that.

Hopefully won't be a cripple tomorrow morning!

Midweek day off work today to take advantage of the beautiful weather and annual leave surplus.
My usual group, all younger than me, were at work so I played with a couple of older geezers I know who have also moved across from our old club.
Totally different pace and style of play to usual. They don't hit big, they don't rush around; it was very chilled and easy.
And the round took 3h45m, exactly the same as usual.

Getting a bit tired of carrying now. Only 7 clubs and I'm trying to decide which one to drop at the weekend. Missing electric trolley life.

Played solo this morning...started at 7.20.
It was cold and windy so I played the front 9 as its more sheltered with the wind direction..
Relatively pleasant out of the strong gusts..p.ayed decently, about 2mor 3 over for that 9.
Got to 10, nobody about so I decided to play 10 and 11 and then see what was ahead..
Got to the brow of the hill on 11 and got hit with 30 mph gusts of really cold wind..picked up my ball and went in...
Don't need that sort of thing...
The game is steady right now, most things working OK...
Hopefully it hangs around for the warmer weather....

Well I haven’t yet - as I sit in clubhouse gazing out at a cold and wet day and golf course - with a match to play shortly. Giving nine shots to a big hitting but but wayward 16 capper. If I keep it tidy off the tee I trust in myself. Spect it to be tough though - and cold…

If it wasnt for a match having to be played I likely wouldn’t bother.

Out today in a 2 ball. 3 1/4 hrs, we got around nicely 😊. Solid play tee to green, short game was decent but not quite good enough to make the first putt a simple one. Nothing outstanding then, nothing terrible either.

Lost concentration towards the end, rain came, it was cold, and I messed 2 of the last 3 holes up as a consequence. That was a shame, left me with 33 points. Considering how much rain we had overnight, how wet the course was, I'd have taken that at the beginning. My pp had 34 so we both came off happy.

Very enjoyable round, a good day.

34 points with three blobs, all from sloppy mistakes arising from a lack of concentration. Happy with the way I’m striking it, and the new putter is just a thing of beauty. Holed out really well from a dozen feet and in, and made a couple of longer ones too.

Another cold day with the wind and the rain, and another defeat for my team in our doubles match. Can’t really complain though, we lost 3&2 but were a combined -3 when we shook hands, it’s just the other lads were better. Think they had 4 birdies and 2 eagles between them. One of the lads drove the ball ridiculously well, think he drove 3 par 4’s and was within 20 yards of another 2. Distance is like a cheat code sometimes.

The heavens opened as we were walking up 18 so all picked up from the green and rushed to get indoors. Really cold east wind whipping in off the sea and the rain was nearly horizontal at the end.
