I have 15 clubs at the moment, and each time I play I have to choose one to leave out.

I've been leaving out my hybrid because I can't decide on which wedge to leave out, but I'd really like to rearrange my set so that I only have 14 and don't need to make the decision in the first place.

I have nice yardage gaps between driver, 3-wood, hybrid, and 3-iron so I'm thinking I don't want to permanently lose one of those because I'll need it sooner or later.

I think what I'm leaning towards at the moment is going from 3 to 2 wedges (not counting PW).

The question is, do I go for 52/58, or 54/60. My PW is 47.

I guess most of it is down to personal preference, but has anybody got any good reasons for choosing one over the other?

What degree is the hybrid? May be some doubling up between that and your 3/4iron. I would hate to lose one of my wedges so carry driver 3 wood 5 wood hybrid then 5 iron onwards

My hybrid is 19deg.

When I was fitted for my clubs, my 3-wood carried (roughly on average) 230, hybrid 215, and 3-iron 200. That's why I thought it would be more useful to keep all the long clubs if I can find a 2-wedge combination that I'm comfortable with.

Unless your sig is out of date, it says you have 50deg and 60deg wedges. Do you have anything inbetween?

If you want to keep your long clubs I think the only option is 52/58.
Personally I have a Driver, 3 and 5 wood and then a 24 degree hybrid to cover 3 and 4 irons then go 5-pw + 50/54/58 wedges. My reasoning is that I like to have more choice of short clubs to give me the best chance of chipping/pitching close.
I'm quite happy if I miss the green from 200+ out (most of us arn't going to hit the green that often from there anyway) and if I've got all the clubs to choose from I can get close enough to 1 putt most of the time.
I find with the long clubs, there is much less difference in distance in real terms unless you are striking the ball well. An ok 3 wood will go a similar(ish) distance to a reasonable 5 wood if you catch my drift.
So another alternative would be to drop your 3 and 4 irons and put in a 24 hybrid then you can keep your wedges.

Probable get rid of the 3 iron and still go with the 52/58 combo. At our standard the difference between 3/4 iron is insignificant as to not matter so go with the 4 iron. Nothing you cant do with 52/58 that you can with a 60 so thats a no-brainer.

Have 2 driveres like Big Phil does , one that draws and one that fades :D

Region, it's great to have nice even gaps between clubs but I think you should look at it in a different way.

Which clubs do you need regularly on your usual track?? If you spend a lot of time around 100yds and in then having a hybrid, 3i & 4i in the bag that cover around 200yds is pointless. Having a gap in your distances at around 200yds isn't destructive to your round, a choked down rescue or a hooded 4i will do the job.

On the other hand if 200yds is the distance you need most regularly then dump a wedge. But I'd also hazard a guess that, like most of us, you'll miss the target more often than not from that distance and need to rely on your short game to get up & down where the extra wedge will come in handy.

I'm just about to go the other way and drop either my 3i or rescue (dependent on course and conditions) to go with a 52, 56, 60 combo.

Interesting thread, as I am in the hunt for some wedges. Sounds like52 and 58 is worth considering.

I currently play Driver, 3w, 5w, 24deg, 4-PW, 52 and 56. The hybrid would appear a foolish choice, as it is similar to the 4i right? But at my course there are a couple of long Par 3s where I like to hit it high into the green to avoid frontside traps. But I love my 4iron as I get a good penetrating flight and often use it off the tee. I guess I could alternative between hybrid and 4iron depending on wind conditions?

Leave the 3 iron out. There is only 2 degree difference in loft, what’s the yardage difference between those two clubs?

Hi,
I don't carr a 3 or 4 iron i have driver 3 wood 22 degree hybrid that covers all the shots you are going to play from 200+ yards if you like to hit full wedges into greens then you are better off with 3 wedges than a 3 iron.

If you mean between the 3i and hybrid the distance gap is about 15 yards (carry), but the hybrid flies much higher.

Lots of good ideas coming. Thanks... I'm more confused and undecided now!! :D :D :D

Loose the Hybrid the 3 iron does the same job but is more playable - then have a look at your wedges, keep a note of how many times you play each of them, how often you get stuck between a full 60 or easy 56 for example, it should help you decide what you need.
I had a similar set up but deceided to drop the 56 and now just carry a 52 & 60.

My PW is 46 degrees, gap wedge is 50 degree, sand wedge is 54 degree and lob wedge is 60 degree
