Honestly Mark, either of the putters you've got should give you good results. Get a lesson first. let a pro have a look at what you're doing. It should'nt take long. It maybe alignment or something else but he/she should be able to spot it quickly. And then practice.

If you really want to get a new putter I can recommend the Karsten range from Ping. RRP about £70 but can be got for less.

But have a lesson - you'll probably save cash.

Ok, I've read all the thread now :(
Now, some great advice there, some (I'm afraid to say) twaddle.
Forget, mallet or blade, flat or insert, Titleist or 2 ball, 34" or 35"
If you have a good putting stroke, you can putt with ANYTHING !!!!!
Have you seen tour pros who have a damaged putter holing putts with 2 irons, 3 woods etc etc.
Sure, it's nice to have a putter you like the look of and is a comfortable length and weight, but thats about it for the average golfer.
Keep the lower body still, the wrists firm, not flicky and rock your shoulders.
If you can do that, you can hole putts with a Lancashire sausage.Isn't that right Alchemy? How long have you had your sausage?
Save your money guys and girls and learn to putt with what you've got.

Sage advice Bobmac. I think we all probably know that. Whether we're willing to admit it to ourselves is another matter. After all if we actually thought that, we wouldn't buy any golf clubs for the rest of our golfing lives, and the pro shops, AG, NBs of this would would fall by the wayside.

I thought skiing was pretty bad at 'disposable equipment' but golf takes the biscuit.

It's predominately physcological anyway. We can't resist the occasional shiny new stick. Regardless if it makes us better or not.

Even if we're CF'd for a putter, there's always another one that appears in our local shop at some point down the line that we just can't refuse. People like Alchemy are a rare breed, they find something they like and stick with it, regardless of what's thrown in their path, and they're probably better players because of that. The rest of us are just tarts. Whether it's right is questionable, but it is what keeps countless of bodies in a job.
