I've noticed over the last couple of weeks that the bad language is creeping it's way back in here again.

Lifted from Mike Harris's post earlier.

"Much of it is common sense and also in the sub text of each forum already but so it's all here in black and white here goes...

* What is not acceptable...

3. Posts that contain swearing. I feel this also includes the use of asterisked out swear words. I think everyone on here is smart enough to be able to find non offensive ways of expressing themselves without having to resort to swearing and offending any other former.

* Moderator responsibilities/authorities
1. To ensure the above guidelines are adhered to by forum members and that the ‘reputation of the forum’ (see below) is not damaged."

Sorry to bring it up. But we have even more junior members than ever now. Not that they aren't capable of adding to the problem. But surely as adults on here we have a responsability to adhere to the rules that we agreed to.

Okay. I'll go away now!!

Absolutely no need for bad language whatsoever. Even when used with asterisks, most people easily read what is meant.

Let's remember guys, there are youngsters who browse this forum. Would you want your own kids reading posts with near the knuckle remarks and smatterings of foul language?

I agree it shouldn't be used, but lets be honest. Kids now adays swear like troopers at school, and I dont think it'll be anything they haven't seen or heard before.

I know what you're saying Andy, but then again, I think we should be better than that.

Consider this to be a clubhouse perhaps. How long would a person last as a member of the golf club if he effed and blinded across the bar?

So. Are you saying that because kids swear like troopers, it's OK for the rest of us to do so as well?

Where on earth do you think that the kids got it from in the first place, and will continue to do so if we don't at least try to set an example??

Basher, all depends on what club they are members of.

Maybe their parents and the playground Leftie?

And if you read my post you'll see I agree we shouldn't post swearing on here.

I'm no guardian on here for anyone, so if they swear, curse or break any rules then so be it, they do so off their own back.

It doesn't bother me to be honest, it's only words and our language has evolved since I was younger.

Maybe I'm still too young for most on here.

Everyone learns by example to various degree, people may not want to accept this but it is true, setting examples is easy, setting the right examples in the hope it rubs off requires a little more and everyone without exception let themselves down from time to time (Im guilty) but again the damage or influence can be measured by degree.

Its good that someone reminds us all from time to time, but if a web site is to be run with the highest levels of morality and principles, then it requires policing that way.

When I look at some of the deliberately focussed verbal attacks on here, without bad language, they can be far more offensive than all the bad words you can think of.

So while it may be a nice responsible thing to address, there are other forms of post that equally require address, but are overlooked due to lack of bad language or collective involvement yet often far more offensive.

I welcome Haplesses post as I would any reminder, but lets not forget the other offensive posts which often spark off reaction.

We're none of us saints.

For ark's sake let's not be too puritanical here. As has been mentioned, personal attacks are loads worse than a little bit of banter.

Excessive abuse, yes. In fact, any abuse, yes. But swearing ? Watch kids tv and list the words that would never have been allowed when we were kids ourselves.

If it's allowed on tv, who are we to instigate censorship ? Where do we draw the line ? Is bum ok ? and if so, can we go all the way down anal analogies ? The word that sounds like 'ours'. Is that ok ?

And initials. OMG how bad is that FHS ? ( For hex sake in case you're old and untrendy )

Just my tuppence. ;)

I agree unnecessary swear words are undesirable, and few would want to encourage the brainless inability to master more than one anglosaxon adjective a la Gordon Ramsay; but sometimes a few asterisks are a reasonaable compromise.

Surely we draw the line where the guidelines laid down by the organisation who pays for this forum say we do?

Nice answer ;) ( *bows down* )

But what I mean is what is called swearing nowadays. Obviously the 'C' word and 'F' words are still considered as swearing.

But so many words are allowed in general society nowdays, if I cross any barriers, don't be afraid to pm me, and I'll edit straight away ( Like I say, Crap used to be rude, but it's in everyday use in kids tv today, so I assume it's fine for use here )

Allowed? Call me old fashioned, but the English language has many options which will allow you to get your point across without having to worry whether or not things are offensive. But I take your point.

Exactly

You are old fashioned. As am I. When I first heard Bart Simpson say crap I was shocked. But that was over 10 years ago now, and it's all over kids tv without anyone flinching.

So I assume it's not swearing anymore.

I'm not going to list other words I'm not sure about, coz that will tend to defeat the object of this thread.

But can we pm each other rood words that should and shouldn't be allowed, like schoolkids. ( joke )
